The fruit tree and the farmer

There was once a farmer whom came across a strange, beautiful tree while walking through the forest. It was struggling in the dark forest, unable to get the light it needed and the farmer took pity on it. He dug it up and replanted it on his land, where it got all the light it wanted. The tree grew and grew and eventually bore fruit. A strikingly colored fruit and when he chanced a bite, found it's flesh delicable and sweet. The Farmer saw this as a gift to him from the Four.
He quickly became addicted to the fruit and with that addiction he refused to let anyone else have any. It mattered not who asked, be it friends or a starving traveller, he chased them away. He inevidably resorted to killing those that dared to touch his tree. The Four took great offense to this.
One day, while he was eating some of the fruit as he sat against the tree's trunk, Gale struck the tree with a bolt of lightning. The farmer was blown away, seriously injured and dazed. After he managed to regain his senses, he looked up to see his beloved tree was being claimed by Ember, it's fire turning the bark and leaves to ash and the fruit popping. In despair, and too wounded to move, the farmer could only watch as the tree burned to the ground.
That wasn't the end of his punishment, however, for Clay and Tide took their turn. The farmer started to feel pain in his belly, the seeds of the fruit he had recently eaten were sprouting within him. He screamed in agony as the roots spread through him and into the grount beneath and the shoots of several new saplings burst through his skin and reached of the sky. His body breathed it's last as these new saplings rapidly grew into fruiting adult trees, but his spirit did not join the ancestors. No, this spirit was bound to these new trees.
At first he saw this as a blessing: to be one with the children of his beloved tree! Then he realized in this state he could not partake in their fruit. Worse, he could no longer stop others from taking the fruit. When what was left of his body was eventually found and the new trees discovered, he could only watch in horror as the fruit, his fruit, was plucked from his branches and shared with everyone.
What once he greedily kept to himself, now is forced to provide everyone, forevermore.
