The dwarven smith and innovator, Tuvec Hardbrow discovers iron and is executed for it.  The dwarven hold of Hardgate is destroyed in divine wrath and it's people become the first duergar.

The dwarven smith and innovator, Tuvec Hardbrow discovers iron and iron working, sharing it with the world. Due to the scarcity of tin close to any surface locations, the dwarves of Riela have often traded in tin and have been the primary craftsmen for bronze.  Having made a fortune off the bronze trade the dwarves of the city see their imense wealth threatened by Tuvec's actions.  They execute Tuvec for it as bronze begins to slowly be phased out in favour of iron. The god Harrenhum exiles the dwarves of Hardgate to the deepest depth and turns their skin ashen grey, becoming the first duergar.
