Magic of Nemed

Millennia ago when magic was first discovered in Nemed, it was linked back to a small rift in the veil between heaven and earth. The rift let magical energy trickle out, causing the presence of it to become amplified beyond what was naturally there. This allowed people to harness its power in various ways, and gain mastery over it much faster due to its much higher concentration.   When this rift was sealed off after The Ending, it returned the magical presence of the world back to its original state, lowering it significantly. As such, casters of Nemed needed to find alternate ways of casting magic of the same strength they had previously. One of the first, and most common, ways that was found, was using gold as a conductor for the magic to flow through. Casters are able to hold gold objects and cast their spells through them, acting as a conduit, and increasing the potency of the magic as it flows through. There are some caveats to this, however, as using gold is not perfect. Depending on how powerful the spell is, the magic coursing through it can melt it, changing it's structure in such a way that it's unusable for casting. A caster can also seriously injure themselves if they try and pump too much magic through too little gold, but these risks are accepted by many of the casters throughout Nemed as it is by far the easiest way of utilizing magic.   In recent years it has been found that pure amberyll can not only be used to store magic, but also as a conductor for casting it. It doesn't suffer the same side effects as gold does; it cannot melt and can conduct any level of magic a caster could throw at it. The only downside is it is exceedingly rare and expensive, so it's not a viable option for most casters.   Due to the restrictive costs of casting, not many people outside of mercenaries or military officials cast spells. Due to the relation of magic and the gods some people might be very against magic and discriminate against people that use it.

Mechanics

Playing a caster in Days Lost has some modified rules. Any powers with the Arcane, Divine, or Psionic tags are affected by these rules. A spell will not work unless through gold or amberyll. A piece of pure amberyll jewelry can be used to cast any level or kind of spell and will not expire. Things made out of pure gold can be used as conductors of their equivalent worth in gold pieces.
Type Cost Consumed
Cantrip 1 gp 0 gp
At-will 3 gp * Power Level 1 gp * Power Level
Encounter 5 gp * Power Level 3 gp * Power Level
Daily 10 gp * Power Level 5 gp * Power Level
People would be likely to notice a player using a power that has any tag other than Martial. Most of the population of Nemed would not be educated as to the differences between types of magic and would likely associate it with The Ending, which is a sore subject to say the least.
