SixMoreVodka, the creators of Degenesis: Rebirth, have a Web Based Character creation tool on the Degenesis website. It is an excellent tool that is able to assist with the allocation of Attribute and Skill point adjustments when choosing the many aspects of your character. To use it, you must register with the website. All resource books are available, for free to download, via the website as well.
There are 6 Standard Steps to the Creation of a Degenesis Character:
1. Choose your Culture, Concept, and Cult
2. Spend Points
At the outset, every character gets (10) Attribute points to
allocate to the six Attributes and (28) Skill points to raise
his Skills. Every (+1) costs exactly (1) point. Unlike the Skills,
the Attributes already start with (1) free point, which does
not have to be taken out of the point pool.
Characters have to choose from each of the 2 groups of skills which drives their character. Are they impassioned or logical? Are they protected by their faith or their own severe stubbornness? Each character must choose this important aspect of their personality. This determines the calculation of your Ego points.
The Player cannot initially spend more than (2) points
on any Attribute or Skill. Therefore, the Attribute max is
(3), and the Skill max is (2).
As the player chooses their Cult, Concept, Culture, and Potential then it will expand the maximum attribute and skill points they can add to a given field.
3. Spend Points on Backgrounds
The 6 backgrounds are the power structures behind the character. This is the secrets they may know, the network they have joined, the resources, they have available, the authority or renown of their position and actions, and the allies that they have created.
Players have 4 background points to spend, no background can go above 3 at character creation.
4. Determine Rank
Within your cult, you may progress up within your hierarchy. Characters must meet the prerequisites required to advance. Each promotion brings additional equipment and responsibilities. Some ranks will provide other special rules and options. As an example, a starting character may easily qualify for the second or third rank of their cult if points are optimized as such. Many times this will help direct how the cult views how a character "should" be built. A Spitalian starts off as a Recruit, but with a focus in INT + Medicine or BOD + Stamina they are able to become an Orderly. This lets them wear the iconic neoprene suit seen in the trailer. The Spitalians are lore-wise focused on medicine and healing yet have a strong military focus on eradicating the threats of mankind. To become a fabled Famulancer as a 3rd rank, the Orderly must have BOD + Stamina, INT + Medicine, or INT + Science at more advanced ranks to become a rank and file solider. From here, the Cult encourages more specific specialization. However, all Spitalians can be expected to have some knowledge of medicine and likely be fairly fit for combat.
5. Choose Potential
Potentials are a feat like ability allowed to the character based on their prerequisites which might be Culture, Concept, Cult, Attribute, Skill or Background. Characters and play around with their points still at this point to optimize their character for their lone Potential point.
A Players potential starts at level 1 at character creation.
