The Grand Archive
The Grand Archive is an ancient artifact that actually predates Dragonkind on Earth. It is a basketball-sized orb of roughly the same weight, and made out of an unknown metallic substance. It's dark grey, perfectly smooth, seamless surface remains a constant temperature no matter the surrounding environment.
It's primary functions were discovered when it was first encountered by early dragon archaeologists in the late Permian period. Upon physical contact, perfect recollection of all of one's memories is achieved; though, such fades as normal from that point forward. Throughout the Mesozoic era, dragon society increasingly treated it as a novelty as their own natural memory improved over the generations. in the early Paleocene epoch, however, it was discovered that one could, with great magical effort, coax out memories of their past lives. This became a boon to many academics, scholars, and histories seeking to catalog knowledge that had once been lost to draconic history.
Currently, it is in the custody of the Cosmic Dragon as an addition to their personal hoard.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Unknown. It is theorized to originally be non-magical some how, but it's current status as an enchanted item skews any evidence towards one conclusion or the other.
Significance
Around the time dragons fled underground, the Grand Archive was later enchanted to functions as a standard information storage system similar to "the Cloud" of the human internet; any dragon, regardless of proximity, could magically dump information into it for later retrieval. This is also how the artifact came to possess its current name.
Eventually, it was discovered that humans could more easily access past life memories than dragons could, leading to the now banned practice of kidnapping humans to use for extracting additional information from the Grand Archive.
