Enyaerrapel (Ehn-yuh-err-ah-pelle)
The elf and his companion stumbled through the glistening caves, struggling to support his weight along the smooth-cut walls with sweat-soaked palms. "We are almost there, Visri, just hold on for me." The air seemed to boil within the cramped space and the sparkling walls were as equally mesmerizing as disorienting. Finally, the pair stumble and clatter to the ground as the passage wall abruptly expanded into a larger room, in the center, bubbling heat radiated red light as a steady drip of magma flowed down from the ceiling. "We've made it."
Purpose / Function
Along the western coast of the continent of Phezari sits Enyaerrapel, a great volcano formed from the shifting of restless tectonic plates. Long before recorded history, "The Mending Inferno" erupted from the point where the ocean meets the land and, over time, lava flowing from the gash built into the monumental volcano that looms over the coast to this day. Ringed in centuries of dried magma crust, the area surrounding Enyaerrapel is rugged and harsh, but a mythic marvel is presumed to exist beneath the coarse exterior. By some means unknown to current history, a cave was formed into the base of the volcano, carved in a near perfect semi-circle with smooth, glistening walls. The tunnel is said to wind deep into the foundation of the mountain before eventually opening up into a more spacious, and equally semi-spherical room with a burning hot pool of magma in the center. The chamber has been rumored to be extremely hot due to it's proximity to the center of the volcano and the presence of the lava pool. This basin is also presumed to possess incredible healing powers. Legend states that if one were to be born with a physical deformity, should they submerge the afflicted area in the lava pool within the cave of Enyaerrapel and survive the extreme temperatures of the cave, they would "exit the cave and be healed by the piercing fire of the mending inferno."
History
Resulting from the seemingly natural motion of tectonic plates, magma from beneath sea level built up over time to eventually form the monumental volcano. Nobody of the current era is entirely sure of the circumstances that catalyzed the formation of Enyaerrapel but many believe that it was not entirely natural.
Tourism
Humanoid visitors to Enyaerrapel are few and far between due to a mixed amount of fear of the recent activity from the volcano and doubt in the validity of the legends of the pool's healing abilities. If anyone has visited the shining cave of Enyaerrapel to be healed and were successful in the endeavor, it hasn't been reported within the last few centuries.
