Zephyrian
Zephyrians are individuals of a mortal race who carry an active bloodline of air elementals.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Zephyrians are often mistaken for their parents' race because of their similar appearance, but subtle differences reveal their elemental heritage. Their build is pale and slender, adorned with intricate tattoos in the form of complex patterns of faint blue or gray lines on their skin. Moreover, a gentle breeze often accompanies them, and when Zephyrians feel stronger emotions like passion or anger, the indications of their heritage become more evident. In these moments, impromptu gusts of wind playfully tousle their hair or unexpectedly sweep small items off shelves.
Genetics and Reproduction
Like other immortal-blooded races, a Zephyrian retains the genetic traits of its original race when it reproduces. For example, if a Zephyrian was originally an elf and mates with a human, their offspring will be half-elves. There is no evidence that Zephyrians themselves have a higher chance of producing Zephyrian offspring.
Behaviour
Zephyrians are often characterized by their intelligence, otherworldliness, and a strong affinity for secrets and forbidden knowledge. Discovering that they are not entirely human can be a challenging and arduous journey for young Zephyrians, particularly when their true essence is revealed unintentionally in the midst of a distressing situation. This experience can be even more traumatic for those who live in areas where Zephyrians face suspicion and discrimination. Zephyrians, therefore, tend to possess a heightened sense of discretion, compelling them to delve into the mysteries of others as a means of shielding themselves.
Zephyrians' affinity for music extends to their own abilities, as many possess the ability to control and manipulate air currents. This makes them powerful spellcasters, especially as sorcerers, bards, and wizards. Zephyrian wizards often specialize in evocation magic, especially spells that summon and manipulate gusts of wind. Zephyrian clerics often worship deities associated with the air. Zephyrian monks, on the other hand, can learn to use their innate control of the wind to enhance their martial arts.
In addition to their musical and magical abilities, Zephyrians are known for their skills as scouts and messengers. Their natural agility and control of the wind make them excellent scouts and spies, able to move quickly and silently through any terrain. Many Zephyrians also work as couriers or messengers, using their control of the wind to deliver messages quickly and efficiently.
Zephyrians have an insatiable appetite for mystery, which often leads them to a life of adventure. Many Zephyrians bravely explore the world in search of the long-lost truths about their elemental lineage, a sacred inheritance that may have been concealed from their own kin. Others leave small towns in search of new secrets, having already unlocked all the familiar ones. Still others are simply driven to expand their horizons and uncover ever deeper and more complex mysteries. For them, the pursuit of answers is more important than the questions themselves. This attitude resonates particularly well with gnomes.
Most Zephyrian adventurers follow the path of the bard or druid. These professions allow Zephyrians to channel the beauty of the wind into their daily lives. A Zephyrian druid might acquire a winged companion or master the form of a flying creature. Zephyrian minstrels use their voices or instruments to subtly command the air and enhance their performances. Zephyrians who embrace a martial path often become masters of archery, harnessing the power of the wind to swiftly and precisely strike down their foes.
Zephyrians with a penchant for mystery make excellent investigators and spies, excelling as rogues, inquisitors, or rangers. Those fascinated by cosmic mysteries may find power through the path of the oracle or witch. Zephyrians may also be drawn to secular secret societies or intelligence agencies, both governmental and freelance.
Zephyrians' deep curiosity creates a sense of camaraderie with the gnomes. However, their inquisitive nature can be seen as intrusive by other companions, especially dwarves and elves. Though elves have mixed feelings about Zephyrians, they appreciate their privacy when it comes to their own lives. The discretion of Zephyrians is also found appealing by many halflings. Nevertheless, when a Zephyrian becomes excessively fixated on secrets, it can transform into an overwhelming urge to withhold the truth from their companions, unwittingly planting the seeds of doubt and mistrust.
