The Immortal Bloodlines

Summary

The Immortal Bloodlines, or Elder Bloodlines, refer to the powerful bloodlines of the races that existed before the rise of the mortal races. The races of the Immortals are Celestials, Dragons, Elementals, Fey, and Fiends. These bloodlines have been widely seeded into the lineages of the mortal races.   The direct mortal descendants of an Immortal blend characteristics from both parents' races. These are usually referred to as half-bloods, such as half-dragons. As the bloodline is further diluted by mortal blood, the characteristics of the immortal bloodline quickly disappear. Mortals have learned to tap into these bloodlines to gain some of the power of their immortal ancestors.   Occasionally, however, the Immortal Bloodline reasserts itself violently after reaching a point of extreme dilution; this usually occurs around the time of the mortal race's adolescence. There is a separate name for each descendant race of an Immortal Bloodline, though they are collectively known as the Immortal-blooded. The Celestial-blooded are Semaforas, the Fiend-blooded are Lemegeton, Dragon-blooded are Dulaagi, and each of the elemental-blooded has a different race name: Incendari for Fire, Fulgurian for Lightning, Terrakin for Earth, Glacian for ice, Zephyrian for air, and Aquarian for water.   One of the great mysteries surrounding the Immortal bloodlines is the apparent weakening of the Fey bloodline. Fey do not produce half-bloods when they mate with mortals. Instead, they produce another Fey or mortal, and the child's race is always the same as the mother's; thus, Fey do not have a related Immortal bloodline. Most Fey do not have access to the powers that mortals have when they tap into the Fey bloodline, unless they do so by the same method. Fey who do have access to these powers are extremely rare and exceptionally powerful.   Immortal-blooded mortals are often met with fear and discrimination. Although they are more common than some believe, they often face violence and prejudice once their true nature is revealed. The exception to this is the Semafora, as many cultures view an angelic child as a blessing. In most societies, the Lemegeton, Incendari, Fulgurian, and Dulaagi are the immortal-blooded races most likely to encounter hostility and persecution as the traits of their immortal-side begin to manifest.
