Umbarin

The Umbarin people are humanoids standing between 6 ft and 8 ft tall as fully grown adults with skin tones ranging from dull grey to very pale blues and purples. All Umbarins are born with white irises and pupils though on close examination a slight shift in tone can be seen between the two. After the Great Unshackling every Umbarin has been born with a design of white or pale blue tattoo like stripes somewhere on their body in predominantly angular patterns. These patterns, called Ushin, hold great meaning in Umbarin culture and are said to prophesize the events to come in the individuals life. Umbarin generally reach maturity at around 14 years of age and live well into their 80's on average.   The Umbarin people were once known as Goliaths in the common tongue of High Khmerian but following the Great Unshackling come to only respond to their traditional racial name. Umbarin culture is built on the rich oral tradition of the race with knowledge being passed from mother to child with each generation adding to the knowledge and culture of the race. Umbarins adopted by members of other races often find themselves struggling to connect with those of their race raised by Umbarin parents due to them not learning the oral traditions.       Racial Traits (Pick 3):
  • Mountain Homes: +2 Wilderness Survival and it is impossible for the Umbarin to become lost while in mountainous terrain or when affected by fog or light snow. Traditionally mountain folk the Umbarins are at home amongst the high peaks of Devorn.
  • Oral Tradition: +1 Empathy and +1 Human Perception. The wisdom of the Umbarin elders as they pass on the oral tradition of their people leads to better understanding of others in young Umbarin.
  • Toughened Skin: -25% chance to be affected by fire effects. Umbarin skin is tougher than many other sentient races and the tattoo like patterns emanate a small amount of cold energy.
  • Natural Enchanters: The knowledge of how to craft one Rune and one Glyph for half the listed cost and +3 to the Crafting roll required to make the rune or glyph. Culturally fascinated by the patterns in their skin the Umbarin people delved into the mysteries of runecraft and warding.
  • Self-sufficient: +1 First Aid and +1 to Crafting rolls related to cooking. Trusted to take care of themselves from a young age, Umbarin children quickly learn how to survive.
According to The Order of the Broken Tome the Umbarin make up around 4% of all known sentient humanoids on Devorn.
