The Grand Temple
Standing as the primary religious force of The Soveril Empire and one of the few that joined it willingly, agreeing with its "Glorious Mission". Unlike most other religious organizations, the Grand Temple is not a proper religion but rather an organization comprised of members and representatives from various religions.
As the primary religious force of the Empire, the Grand Temple has several responsibilities the Empire has charged them with. The first of which and the most important is the supervision of faith within the Empire. This entails simply ensuring that major settlements are provided with proper facilities for followers of the member religions. They are also tasked with keeping track of the cults and the minor or miscellaneous religions that are within the Empire. The Grand Temple politely refers to these as Alternate Faiths in public settings. Most of them are simply monitored or even offered the protection of or invited to the Grand Temple. However few of these Alternate Faiths are deemed dangerous and become targets for the military forces of the Grand Temple and local authorities.
The second responsibility that the Grand Temple has is investigating and hunting down the followers and forces of the Orrental Pantheon that have infiltrated the Empire. This is handled by the Temple's inquisitorial force, the Hounds of Azolla. Because of the nature of this responsibility, there are situations where the Hounds have authority equal to that of Soveril itself.
The last responsibility that is given to the Grand Temple is one given to all members of the Empire. That is to contribute towards the defense of the Empire when invaded by the Armora Territories. This is mostly handled by the combat focused clerics of the Grand Temple and the various knight orders under them often referred to collectively as The Templar Legion.
Structure
Unlike most other religious organizations the Grand Temple does not have a single leader but rather a council comprised of clergy from each of the religions that make up the Temple. The council members are those chosen by their respective religions to represent them within the Grand Temple or chosen by retiring members.
Political Influence & Intrigue
Perhaps due to being one of the first members of the empire, the temple willingly joining, or its support and efforts in the empire's "Glorious Mission", the Grand Temple is fairly influential in the empire's politics. The Grand Temple has members within several governmental departments, the Emperor's Council, and even a Great Noble House of the Empire among its ranks. Within most of the members of the empire, the Grand Temple holds a similar influence.
