The Revelry

One of the few truly international organizations on Dicathia, the Revelry is best described as an entertainment guild. Founded by a group of Eidals and Demi-Gods that chose to band together to resist being forced into joining either of the major pantheons, The Revelry has existed since the days of The Sundering though it only reached its widespread popular reputation within the past few centuries.    The best way to describe the Revely is as a massive guild focused on entertainment and enjoyment, though it may be an understatement and oversimplification.

Structure

The Revelry is divided into five main branches known as the Five Festivals, each one centered around a focus of the Revelry.
  • The Festival of Games
  • The Festival of Spirits
  • The Festival of Laughter
  • The Festival of Treats
  • The Festival of Theatrics
The leaders, all of whom are mortal after The Amber Covenant forced the founders beyond the material Plane, of each Festival work together to lead Revelry as a whole, making major decisions through discussion and voting in most cases and competitions or duels in others. The structure of each festival is decided upon by their respective leader without interference from the other leaders and festivals so long as their responsibilities are properly dealt with and there are no serious issues from the majority of the respective festival. Now though a festival leader may decide how their festival is structured it does not mean they can completely change it on a whim every so often. A couple of rules and restrictions are put in place after the festival leader first makes major changes to the festival's structure. This was largely put in place due to events within and surrounding the Revelry in an older time that was much darker and more chaotic than now.    Each of the Five Festivals embodies a main aspect of the organization.    The Festival of Games focuses on games, tournaments, casinos, and other such activities. Its members are typically gamblers, lovers of games, and those with lots of luck, good and bad. It is one of the few Festivals that is not fully welcomed wherever it goes.    The Festival of Spirits deals with all things alcohol, be it distilling, brewing, mixing, or distributing. Its members are typically mixologists, brewers, innkeepers, and those who love drinking, casually or otherwise. Arguably the most connected of the Festivals as they sell their low-quality products, or rather what they consider low-quality, and extra stock to taverns and stores all over the world.   The Festival of Laughter is one of the larger Festivals as it deals with all manner of entertainment and activities that bring laughter to others. The main businesses of this Festival are traveling circuses, comedy troupes, and parade planning. Its members are typically clowns, comedians, carnies, and those who simply like making others laugh.   The Festival of Treats primarily handles food, with a strong preference for desserts and other sweets, the things that make people smile the most. Some of these members love sweets so much it's almost zealous. There are a few eccentric members of the Festival that deal with toys and other types of treats however they are scarce. These Festival members are often Patissiers, Confectioners, Toy Makers, and those with a sweet tooth or two or twenty.   The Festival of Theatrics is one of the more influential of the Five Festivals as it interacts with higher society more often than the others. The festival focuses primarily on performances and shows such as concerts, plays, musicals, shows of magic, wonder, and sophistication, and even the occasional pantomime. The Festival is largely comprised of actors and actresses, playwrights, musicians, acrobats, stage magicians, and lovers of more refined types of entertainment. Roughly half of the world's great plays and musicals were made by Revelry playwrights or done with its performers. Most of the half that didn't were consulted with members of the Revelry during its creation and run.

Public Agenda

The Revelry's public agenda is rather simple. They simply wish to have fun and spread their fun to others, without being restricted by national, racial, or religious borders.

Assets

Many are the coins and deeds in the Revelry. From coins gathered from selling alcohol, games of chance, or treats to those gathered in exchange for tickets to their circuses and plays, the wealth of the Revelry is quite noticeable even for the likes of the Golden Creed. Coins aside, the equipment, vehicles, venues, and everything else required to maintain their businesses and traveling shows scattered across Dicathia most likely equal that of a city or small nation. That said with it being largely scattered across the world it is most often unknown or easily overlooked by all but a rare few.

History

Much to the displeasure of historians, due to the Revelry's nature and activities, they rarely keep any records of their history beyond prized recipes, favored plays, and classic jokes. What few records do remain are either kept hidden within the Carniv Islands the Revelry calls home or were taken by some observant scribe that recorded what they could notice. Most information on the Revelry is only a century or two old, acquired after the group's reputation rose. The bulk of its history has been lost to the people.
