Smoo Ack Blubber

The Smoo Ack - Diamond Tail is an essential part of a Marite's diet. Specifically the fatty blubber is used to provide the majority of the calories during the night. Without harvesting the Smoo Ack blubber the marites would be unable to congregate into large villages to survive the long night. The blubber allows them to harvest and store enough calories during the day that the Marites can stop their nomadic ways during the night and gather in large temporary villages. While the blubber supports the Marites it is not usually eaten raw. Instead it is refined into Bub Acky a spiced solidified saturated fat. Eaten raw the blubber causes varying degrees of hallucinations and out of body experiences. Sometimes consuming it raw causes not effects other times it people to enter a coma like state where they report feeling disconnected from there body. Due to the psycoactive nature of the raw blubber it is often used in religious rituals.   Marites hunt the Smoo Ack - Diamond Tail in the Den Mar by finding large tidal flats fed by on or two tidal streams. During high tide the Smoo Ack come in to bred and lay thier eggs. As the tide starts to recede the Marites make a Ack Trap to funnel the Diamond tails into a small net where they can be caught and killed. Tradition dictats that every third Smoo Ack should be let go. This ensures that the Smoo Acks are not over hunted.
