Session 49: Back to the Beholder Events

Lowsun 13, 2023 KC, Late Afternoon

  At Beholder Lair north of Village of Skola Vale, Skola Vale, Kampos     The party, with Bastion unaware of anything, are back in the treasure room. Smoke and fire is coming from the left tunnel. They start to look for a way to stop it and then a Bugbear appears.   He has his hands up. He says he would be willing to help fight the Beholder, none of the others are willing to help. He was sent here just months ago to investigate why the nearby mines were having problems as strange effects had been affecting the miners. He was captured, and the Beholder was able to charm him to stay.   They then start working on a plan how to get up. Wild shape, Fly spells, and other methods were implemented to get everyone up.   They flew up and saw a mess. Some silvery dust was everywhere and Dead beholders everywhere, many turning grey. In the midst of this dark room is a tall Black Obelisk with some strange pattern inside and it is looking like a Crystal so it can be seen through except this glowing network of lights inside. above it is another orb, like the Orb of Toril this one seems to be cracking around the equator with some purple electric storm coming out of it. The Beholder is staring at it and seems to be in the midst of some ritual.     Just as the party comes out the Beholder spots them.       The ground ripples blue and purple, as like water. The Orb falls... tink tink tink and seems to still have some purple energy, the obelisk turns into solid obsidian-looking and no longer see through.. the other beholders begin to deflate and turn into some chalky salt grey material.   Shadow finds the Orb.   Bastion turns to stone.   Barlo says "someone knows we are here". He tells them how he had a voice in his head.   Shadow pulls out the scroll of Greater Restoration.   Sas drops out of wildshape, reads off the scroll. It fades to dust and Bastion gets his color back and is fine.     They start to prepare the Beholder for travel, as he wanted the whole corpse. It is too big for the Bag of Colding. They cast Gentle Repose on it.   The Bugbear casts Feather Fall, says goodbye and leaps into the hole... slowly falls down.   Bastion investigates the pile, Shadow looks for the orb.       body of a Dead Tiefling who had the AO ring. He also had a burnt/damaged book. Hard to get anything from it, but it does look like Meklan's handwriting.   Shadow finds the orb. It is cracked and crackling with lighting of blue and purple at the equator with some type of possible tentacle coming out of it.   The "statues" around the room seem to be adventurers who might have died and been turned to stone.   Barlo is getting a Weird feeling by being here. He speaks of how someone said they are coming after him, or them all, because they stole something and they would wipe their minds off the earth. (Later it is learned to have come from the Shadow Thieves   Bastion asks if he stole something important. Barlo says he has stolen things, but nothing comes to mind. He says nothing too big or important. The voice was not Jacoby. They realize that the anti-magic field must have allowed them to communicate with Barlo.   They tie the Beholder to a rope.   and then the dust becomes like sand on the beach at night. They look around and they are no longer in the cave. In an endless desert with three pyramids in the distance, a large sphinx, and the Black Obelisk are there. In front of them is an acttrative woman with a somewhat feline face. Sas knows her, Shadow is sure of who she is.       They all get down. (Arktos uses gaseous form)   Barlo searches the statues and finds some Silver and Electrum, not much at all.
