Old Bonegrinder

Old Bonegrinder is a foreboding and sinister windmill that stands tall amidst the desolate landscape of Barovia. Its aged wooden structure, battered by time and weather, creaks with an eerie melody in the haunting winds that sweep through the surrounding fields. The sight of its towering silhouette evokes a sense of unease, as if the very essence of darkness has taken root within its walls. Tattered and faded cloth banners flap ominously from its rooftop, bearing the faded image of a bone-chilling grin. The faint scent of freshly baked pastries, both alluring and macabre, lingers in the air, tempting passersby with a promise of delight and dread. Within its walls dwell three wicked hags, the source of the windmill's notorious reputation. Their twisted smiles and malevolent presence cast a shadow of fear over the land, as tales of stolen children and dark rituals echo through the whispers of those who dare to speak of Old Bonegrinder. It is a place where nightmares and reality merge, where the line between good and evil blurs, and where the secrets of Barovia's dark heart lie hidden.   Legend tells of three hags who took up residence in the windmill, known as Bella, Morgantha, and Offalia. These wicked crones were believed to be sisters, practitioners of dark magic, and infamous child abductors. Their macabre deeds and insatiable hunger for innocent souls earned them a fearsome reputation among the superstitious villagers. It is said that Old Bonegrinder was once a beacon of hope, a place where the people of Barovia would gather to grind their crops and share in the bounties of the land. But when the hags arrived, the windmill became a place of nightmares. With their dark powers, they twisted the very essence of the mill, turning it into a twisted abode of evil.   The hags would lure unsuspecting children with promises of delicious pastries and enchantments, only to capture them and use their stolen life force for their nefarious rituals. The windmill's walls absorbed the anguish and suffering of these stolen souls, leaving a permanent stain on the very fabric of the building.   Throughout the years, many brave souls have attempted to rid Barovia of the hags' presence, but their efforts have mostly ended in failure. The hags, fueled by their dark magic and protected by their eldritch pact, have proven to be formidable adversaries. The Hags were finally defeated by the Adventuring Party The scouring of Old Bonegrinder who enacted revenge on behalf of the many unfortunate children who crossed Old Bonegrinders threshold.

History

In the cursed realm of Barovia, Old Bonegrinder windmill holds a dark and mysterious past that involves the Durst family. Gustav and Elisabeth Durst, a couple known for their business acumen, saw an opportunity in the windmill's desolate location. They recognized its potential as a grain mill and believed it could be the cornerstone of their success. With hard work and determination, the Dursts transformed the dilapidated windmill into a fully operational grain mill. Their business flourished, and the windmill became a symbol of their growing prosperity. They employed locals from nearby villages, establishing a steady source of income for themselves and providing jobs for the struggling residents.   As their wealth grew, the Dursts expanded their ventures and acquired more properties. However, as their success soared, rumors and whispers started circulating among the villagers about the Dursts' dealings. Some claimed the family had made a pact with dark forces to ensure their prosperity.   The truth behind the Dursts' rise to power remained a closely guarded secret. But as their influence grew, the couple mysteriously vanished, leaving the windmill abandoned. Unbeknownst to them, their actions had caught the attention of a coven of night hags who were drawn to the twisted energy surrounding the windmill.   Old Bonegrinder stood as a grim reminder of the darkness that taints Barovia before finally being destroyed in a fire began by Abercrombie 'Abe' Crumb .
