Aerial travel was completely transformed after the Lapse. Violent winds and heat currents made airplane flights impossible. As a result, low-flight zeppelins became the de facto medium for aerial transportation.
Massive zeppelins owned by the
Corpo Rule the skies above major cities, but in the provinces and remote areas trader and pirate zeppelins are battling for dominance and survival.
Conglomerate zeppelins use powerful engines and are equipped with the latest mechanical sensors and navigation devices. Class X zeppelins are suitable for intercontinental travel, an acutely dangerous task, due to the extreme natural phenomena and ruthless pirates. For that reason, they are equipped with armor and weapons. Trader zeppelins, mostly owned by the
Blak, are lightweight and fast, built to avoid pirate ships but also to evade the occasional
Praetorian patrol, the Conglomerate-controlled police.
Pirate
airships are not only unpredictable, but also completely illegal and unregulated, as they carry weapons of varying degrees of lethality, ranging from mildly annoying to highly deadly. Praetorian patrols are ordered to shoot down unmarked zeppelins on sight, no questions asked. For that reason, pirates cover their ships with reflective materials, in an attempt to make them invisible in the sky.
