Prisa
Properties
Material Characteristics
Transparent, unassuming crystal, with distinct spikes in the glassy interior. In the final growth period of a Prisa crystal, smoother material grows around the sharp edges, making it safe to handle.
Physical & Chemical Properties
To Humans who have unlocked their magic, it is cool to the touch.
Geology & Geography
Found only beneath Mount Ebott in large quantities.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Contains the ability to "freeze" Human spells in time until shattered. All human mages prize Prisa and when possible will keep some on hand with premade spells inside. Prisa has no practical use to the other races, so humans drive almost all demand for the crystals. Their naturally-occurring dichotomy of sharp inner crystals and a smooth outer shell is also prized for beauty in some circles, and thus Prisa is sometimes used in place of jewels.
Cultural Significance and Usage
In the Congregatio Magorum, Prisa are symbols of rank in addition to their practical use. Higher-ranked mages are given permission to insert Prisa into their bodies, particularly in their earlobes and hands, for easy access to spells. Prisa inserted into a human's web of magic(citation needed) is known as an Ingem.
Hazards
While generally harmless to Humans and the other races, Prisa crystals are dangerous or lethal when inserted into a human's web of magic(citation needed) above the torso. A Prisa inserted into a human's neck has direct access to the nerves in the body and thus any spell placed into the crystal will have negative effects, some physical, some mental, some spiritual. A Prisa inserted into a human's body above the neck will instantly kill upon receiving a spell. Depending on the nature of the spell, the human's body may become hot to the touch, glow, decompose at a rapid rate, or even reanimate as a Soulless zombie, among other things.
Distribution
Trade & Market
In Teritheya and The Kingdom of Monsters the vast majority of trade regarding Prisa goes directly from the crystal mines to the Congregatio Magorum, and is then distributed to the Magorum's mages for money and in reward for exemplary talent, shows of loyalty, and promotion. In Klaea there exists a moderate-sized group of independant mages who trade with the crystal mines for higher prices, and sometimes resell them to the rare "lone wolf" mage.
Law & Regulation
The Congregatio Magorum forbids free trade within the organization, forcing Prisa to go only through official channels put in place by the Consilium Magorum, The Council of the Magicians before reaching the common mage. Ingems are forbidden to the lowest-level mages, and higher-levels are instructed as to how many they may embed and where. Any mage who disobeys these laws will be chastised, then either publicly humiliated, demoted, or most commonly thrown from the Magorum altogether.
