Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland refers to the northernmost part of the island of Ireland which is as part of the United Kingdom. The region has historically been contested between the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland and is currently fought over in a paramilitary conflict known as the New Troubles between Unionists and Nationalists who advocate a maintenance of the status quo and a reuinification of Ireland under the banner of the Republic respectively.
