The Patriots

The Patriots, sometimes also referred to as the Patriot Superhuman Defense Force, is a team of sanctioned supers operating from Washington, D.C. . They are under the direct command of the President of the United States of America and chiefly charged with protecting the President and the other branches of Government in the capital.
In rare cases, the President may chose to deploy them whereever they chose, such as aiding other sanctioned supers around the States and (although this power has never been invoked) deploying them overseas in any wars and covert operations the United States are involved in. In such cases, at least one member of the Patriots must always remain with the President at any given time.
Its members are generally^{[by whom?]} considered to be amongst the most powerful supers in the United States, matched perhaps only by The Vanguard.
Their motto, Beati est victoria ("blest with vict'ry") is taken from a line of the U.S. national anthem, translated to Latin.

Structure

The Patroits are under direct command of the President of the United States, though they rarely issue direct orders and instead have them cooperate with local law enforcement and the United States Secret Service to ensure the safety of Washington, D.C., and in particular the countries leaders, members of Congress and members of the Supreme Court.
Internally, the Patriots are lead by a designated commander who possess power of order over the other members.

History

Established by the Presidential Superhuman Protection Act, a bi-partisan bill passed in 1989, the Patriots were originally established as the President's main line of security against superhuman threats, as escalating numbers of supers had lead to worries that AS-SWAT teams would not be able to keep up with the rising danger. Further laws passed in 1996 and 2002 expanded their duties to protection of Congress and the D.C. based government in general, and gave the president the power to authorise Patriot intervention in U.S. wars and covert operations overseas.
