Drosden

Drosden (Sylvan: Dors Duy'inte, lit. 'the closed door') is a village deep in the Shandalian Forest, near the ruins of the Feywild Portal. It is the home village of the Mosswardens.

Government

Drosden is overseen by an elected council of five members who serve for thirteen year terms. These council members are responsible for drafting laws, issuing taxes, proposing building projects, and discussing other issues brought to them by the rest of the community. The council presents a proposal to the rest of the village, which is then put up to a vote. Any ties are broken by runoff vote by the village council.

Defences

Every able-bodied adult in Drosden is expected to aide in the defense of the town. Younglings are trained in the use of simple weapons such as longbows, swords, and hand axes both for use in hunting as well as village defense. The druids of the Mosswarden clan wield ancient spore magic, calling upon the forces of fey magic and primordial nature to provide protection from larger threats.   Drosden's location deep within the Shandalian Forest and isolation from other cultures and settlements leads to few interactions with the outside world, threatening or otherwise. Regular threats to Drosden include roving packs of wild animals or the rare dragon or monster attempting to claim the territory. Bandits will occasionally descend upon the village but are quickly dispatched through a combination of druidic magic and a well-trained militia.

Climate

Situated in the center of the Shandalian Forest, the climate around Drosden is temperate year-round. The heat of the summer is dampened by the shady boughs of the trees overhead and the village is far enough south that the harsh winters of northern Shandalar do not affect it. The Mosswardens keep an eye on weather patterns around the Veggberg Mountains and use their magic to prevent the village from suffering the violent thunderstorms that sometimes roll off the mountains to the west.

Natural Resources

The druidic magic of the Mosswardens ensures a bounty of natural resources to the citizens of Drosden. Any trees cut down for lumber are quickly regrown by the next year and the druids imbue the soil with magical fertility, ensuring bountiful harvests of food for both the people of Drosden and their livestock.   The Mosswardens long ago used their magic to create a tributary off the Tala'mir River that flows to Drosden, providing a steady source of fresh water in the local pond.
