Hokken

The Hokken (Ghukliak: Hokei keno, lit. 'honored warriors') are the ethnic group of hobgoblin native to Sekajota.
The Hokken are descended from a hobgoblin clan that fled to Sekajota following the War of Endless Midnight, after their patron deity Nomog-Geaya was killed by the god Mekhane. As the hobgoblin exiles spread across the island continent, the Hokken settled in the forests around the ruins of Istishia'jilad in the island's southern mountain valley. The Hokken raided the surface levels of the ruined temples, uncovering the lost history of the continent and the long-forgotten Primordial Titan Istishia. The Hokken started worshipping Istishia as their new patron deity and began sending missionaries to the other four hobgoblin shogunates. Though religious leaders still loyal to Nomog-Geaya attempted to suppress the spread of Istishianism within their territories, a series of religious uprisings across the continent severely weakened the four shogunates, allowing the Hokken to conquer the entirety of the continent. The Hokken shogun would be crowned as the first emperor of the Hokken Empire.

Major language groups and dialects

Hokken speak a dialect of Ghukliak that is considerably more nuanced than that which is spoken by their Goblin kin. Their vocabulary is more expansive than Old Ghukliak thanks to years of diplomacy, trade, and conflict with neighboring nations that forced the Hokken to advance technologically and culturally.
