Stoneblood Clan
The Stoneblood Clan (Urkesh: Choolun-tsus, lit. "blood of stone") is a powerful Orcish clan within the Urkesh Empire whose territorial holdings encompass the northern region of the Urkesh Highlands. Though their population is small compared to the other major clans of the Empire, the Stoneblood wield outsized political influence thanks to their control over the Howling Passage, the quickest land trade route between the Urkesh Highlands and the Balar Desert to the north.
History
The Stoneblood began as a family of orcs living in the western mountains of the Urkesh Highlands, which were at the time controlled by the Daggertooth Clan. At the time, they were simply the descendants of a male orc of minor renown throughout the Daggertooth lands known for his rune-carving skills. After one of the orc's sons was killed fighting for the Daggertooths in a land dispute with a rival orcish clan, the runesmith led a revolt against their warchief. He challenged the warchief to single combat for the title of khan. During their battle, the other orcs watched in amazement as the smaller orc suffered blow after blow from the mighty khan but barely moved an inch by the assault. The runesmith would block every blow with his stone axe, wearing down the warchief before ultimately slaying the exhausted warchief with two quick swings of his axe. Taking control of the Daggertooth, he earned the last name Stoneblood, as the other orcs believed he only survived the warchief's beating because his blood flowed with the power of Grumbar himself.
