The Razil Forest

"The East And West Razil Forests"   The Razil Forests (East & West) Of The Sumi Tal-Sha'ba are located in a very remote section of the displaced southern continent. This vast tropical rain forest is believed to hold an immense variety of diverse flora and fauna. Unique opportunities exist for those willing to take a risk and explore the rainy lands below the dripping, green canopy.   While there are a variety of many smaller and localized biomes within the Razil Forests, the generalized ecosystem as a whole can be summed up as a rainy, dark and dangerous place of huge trees and thick vegetation having many spines, thorns, or poisonous secretions. The animal life is equally adept at killing, defending, or escaping one another. Life here is usually harsh and short lived, filled with many strange and unsettling sounds.   Breaking up the large, rainy forest is the area known as The Sumi Tal-Sha'ba. The elevated plateau of The Shaba separates the Razil Forest into two unequal west and east halves. Both are equally dangerous and thought to have similar plant and animal life. While the western portion of the forest officially remains largely unexplored, the eastern portion has had some successful expeditions into its interior. Mineral, gem, and metallic prospects are believed to exist in the rocky crags and flowing streams surrounding the plateau near the forest’s edge.   While impossible to list all species of flora and fauna in the Razil Forest, those plants of note include a variety of Kapok Trees, Razil Nut Trees, Mountain Palms, Devil Clubs, Dream Bushes, and Strangler Vines. A great assortment of animals are also found here, such as anacondas, vipers, caiman, iguanas, tegu, vultures, falcons, macaws, toucans, maned wolves, jaguars, giant river otters, monkeys, tapirs, frogs, toads, salamanders, snails, tortoises, spiders, ants, flies, and mosquitos.   Since no credible person has returned from the mostly inaccessible and dangerous western region of the Razil Forest, it is difficult to know exactly what remains hidden amongst its foliage. If the map and testimony of Greve Vasco is to be believed, then there is a long snaking river that leads up to several tributaries coming out of the western Grey Crags. Allegedly there is a hidden landing below a major fork in the river, where a private camp that he calls Lumaca’s Landing is based and collects various rare goods to bring to market.   However, there is much more recorded about the larger eastern region. Several rives are known to flow down The Grey Crags and through the forest, most notably The Tarnish River and supposedly The Sparkling River. Prospectors and miners have left behind several abandoned tin, lead, copper, silver, and gold mines. A large, abandoned, copper mining town has also been recently discovered in the southern portion near The Grey Crags. A tribe of gnolls is known to be established in the northern portion of the forest near The Igapo Swamp. An eccentric dwarf is rumored to be wandering the mountains, obsessed with finding a mysterious and lost platinum mine. Despite all of the dangers and uncertainty, the most sought after place in the forest is The Double Axe Outpost. While certainly not bustling, it is secure and has shops for everything. All local goods collected from the surrounding areas flow through here on their way to far off markets. Venders are usually specialized in a particular product and surplus is often sold in front offices of the warehouses. High paying jobs abound for armed caravan guards.
