The Shadow Rift

"The Shadow Rift"
This rift began as a tear in the fabric of the space/time boundary separating the plane of shadow and the prime material plane. This opening allowed shadow beings to enter the prime material plane in the location that the rift occurred.
The Shadow Rift appeared in the tall, shadowy Meza Enu Forest, which is caught between the East and West Skuggaberg Mountains. The trees here grow exceptionally tall as they stretch and strive to attain the limited sunlight that is available here. This woodland spends most of its day cast in the shadows of the steep, twin Skuggaberg Mountain ranges. Due to the prevailing winds and orographic lifting, this area has frequent rainstorms and many cloudy days. Flowing out of the mountains are many tributaries and waterways that feed into the Skugga Flod River, which passes by the bustling city of Morkrets. It is here in Morkrets, that the shadow beings tried to take over and blend with the people and establish an outpost into this plane. The people who were blended with shadow beings, became known as Shadowfolk.
It is now known exactly how many were blended with the shadow beings or for how long Morkrets was being subverted, as many who learned the truth were quickly killed or blended as well. But even in this shadowy place, a ray of hope escaped, bringing the secret to light. Many battles were waged against the shadow beings, but they persisted and grew stronger and more devious. Just as the influence of the shadow beings was spreading across the land, The Sun Swords were created and given to several groups of adventurers to fight the shadow beings. With the new weapons and organized fighting force, the shadow beings were eventually defeated and The Shadow Rift sealed.
