Binding Chains

Sextus knelt in front of an alter that was light with the a brazer's dancing shadow. Aside from the alter, the basment was unremarkable. Tables and chairs dotted the room, covered in a hazy smoke. Sextus finished his prayer of freedom, rose and kissed the alter before grabbing one of the chain like bracelets that lay on it. Each link in the chain represented one of the grand martyrs of humanity. Sextus felt the pride of his ancestors every time he placed the bracer on his arm. Their deaths would not be in vain.   The night's meeting was an important one. Leaders from all over Humanholt gathered in the muggy basement. Chief among them were the leaders of the Veren vassal states, Legate Governor of the veteran townships, and elders of the few remaining tribal villages. Sextus was here to gain their allegiances. Once he had them, humanity would be a major step towards freedom.   Once the board had been set, these leaders will tear apart the Veren Empire from the inside, and finally claim victory from the human race. Sextus razed his fist high for the room to see the chain he wore, flaunting his defiance of the empire, and the crowd cheered. Their names would be written in the histories as the grandest men and women that had ever lived!

Significance

The twelve links of the chains represent the initial twelve members of the Human leadership during the Homina wars. It represents the wearers loyalty to their cause, as well as rank with in the resistance.
Wearing the band, also signifies the bravery of the wearer. The more flagranly the band is desplayed the more 'daring' the wearer is. The band is illegal to wear within the Veren empire, but many human towns do not comply with the law that requires arrest and execution of the wearers.
