God's Shadow

Rognat and Darius stood back to back. Rognat's crude Hobgoblin plate contrasting with Darius' Sleek Veren breastplate and uniform. Rognat spotted movement to their left. "Left! Did you see it?" He yelled raising his shield. Darius shot a terrified glance towards the movement before snapping his head back. Guess not. Rognat thought as he tightening his grip on his mace. If someone had told Rognat that the ambush would have ended up with him fighting along side a Veren legionaries, he probably would have stab them.
He had attacked the legions patrol as they passed through a natural formation of stone pillars. The plan immediately took a turn for the worse when a fog rolled in, obscuring the sight line of the hobgoblin skirmishers. Rognat briefly analyzed his memory of the brutal skirmish for anything that would give him an idea about the creature killing his men. He couldn't recall much outside of his duel with Darius. The fighting had been divided into small pockets, obscured by the mist.
The silence dragged on until the chaos began. A beast strode from the mist, rushing for Darius. The legionary brace himself, but the thing was tackled by another beast before it reached him. Brays and shouts echoed in the mists. Rognat guessed there were hundreds of stomping paws and gnashing maws battling around them. Terrified, but alive the pair backed into an alcove of rocks as more predators began fighting their ways towards them.
The battle lasted for a few short minutes, silence befalling the battlefield, the only interruptions from the occasional chewing of some primordial beast. The mist cleared in short order revealing a diverse array of corpses. Massive reptilians, bipedal wolves, and other large beasts lay scattered amongst the stone pillars. The pair advanced cautiously from their hiding spot. Blessedly uninterrupted Rognat beckoned Darius to follow him. The Legionary hesitated for the briefest of moments, before far off chunch spurred him to action.
Upon exiting the valley Rognat spotted a black vine spewing from the mouth of a cave. He then realized where the creatures came from, he had started a fight near one of the many, terrible entrances to the underground jungles of God's Shadow. Then as if on cue Rogtat heard growling come from the darkness of the cave.

Geography

The actual geography of the jungles in God's Shadow are at best speculation, and at worse works of fiction. The massive caverns that reside under the Northern half of the continent are sustained by a mix of volcanic heat and magical energy. According to the few who survived expeditions into God's Shadow described it as a mocking parody of the surface.
The region is supposed to have large bodies of underground water that are surrounded by strange jungle like flora. The dense foliage gives ways to open caverns and deep pits that connect one 'jungle' to the other.

Fauna & Flora

God's Shadow is an unforgiving place. The creatures that spawn in untold numbers fight a constant war for survival eating what ever they can get their hands upon. The innate magical radiation as created species that are far deadlier than their surface cousins. The creatures often grow so ravenous that any sign of weakend pray will gather hordes of the beasts.
The flora is not much better. Every plant in the tunnels is either toxic or will try to eat passing creatures .
