Tiefling

The so-called “Children of The Devil” are often viewed with fear. While there is no firmly set historical context for the claims that the Tieflings are half-devils born the carry out The Devil’s will on the Material Plane, the urban legends and folk tales of tieflings making pacts and stealing children are endless in number. Naturally, this has caused the majority of tieflings to travel the countryside in roving bands and caravans and lead nomadic lives. The most notorious of which is The Infernal Carnival, a band of tieflings that decided to use the myths and tales about them to form a circus to tantalize, frighten and make good coin.
Tieflings are not fond of religion usually and tend to stay clear of Triswell in general. Those who do commit to the faith of the Holy Church often find themselves relegated to being a preacher in a small Borderlands settlement somewhere. Tieflings themselves have their own fables about their origins about Mother Zol, the first Tiefling, who traded away her humanity to The Devil to protect her village from dying to starvation and a brutal winter. The tale is one of doing what is necessary to survive is not always so clean cut and black and white as so many have often made it out to be. This is a lesson that many Tieflings hold close to their heart.
However, not all tales of the Tiefling's origins are rooted in the divine.  Practitioners of the Arcane Sciences have put forward a theory that the origins of the Tiefling race may not be in the Astral Skies but the Chaos below instead.  More specifically the theory asserts that Tieflings are tangentially related to Fernia, the Elemental Plane of Fire.  This would go a long way to explain the Tieflings' biological affinity to fire, which while is associated with some of the Eight Hells is not the most prevalent element in most depictions of The Devil (That being metal.)  The theory however does not offer an explanation to how the Tieflings came to the surface of the Disc.
