King Melail Larethaen

(a.k.a. The Iron Heron)

For over 200 years, the King of Heroncourt has enclosed Sidhe Karobh in what some call a "forced" peace, and what others call a "well-disguised tyranny."   King Melail was groomed in the high courts of Elven society, where he watched the petty squabbles of the nobility turn into bloody civil wars and isolationist policies that would weaken the territory as a whole. This was, as he was often overheard to say, "an embarrassment for our people, and a damnable waste of lives." He studied philosophy and ethics, and could not abide by the long-lived Elves being wiped from existence simply over the slight of one nobleman scuffing another noble's shoe. For a culture that could live hundreds of years, it seemed utterly irresponsible to see life snuffed out. To him, the Elves should be setting an example by which the lesser races could look upon with awe and wonder.   When Melail took the throne and proposed a united territory to present to the Ruling Council of Dorathia, he was mocked and ridiculed by the other Kingdoms. Why should any other Elven kingdom unify when the noble houses of his own territory rebelled and fought against each other? Who was he to make demands of any of them?   To say that Melail took such resistance personally is an understatement...   Ten years later, the Kingdom of Heroncourt bore witness to a force the likes of which they had never seen. King Melial Larethaen marched at the head of a massive army, not of Elves, but of constructs he called The Warforged. No more would Elven blood be shed; these constructs were not flesh and bone, and did not need to eat or sleep. They were completely obedient and efficient soldiers, and to the rebelling noble houses, they were an iron plague that swept through the kingdom like locusts. Any who dared to stand against them were subdued. Each house was brought to trial before the so-called "Iron Heron", where they would either swear their allegiance or be stripped of all rank and rights and be exiled.   With Heroncourt "pacified" and the threat of the Iron Heron's Warforged army, it did not take long for neighboring kingdoms to quickly reconsider his proposed alliance...
