Evil is such a broad term, used to describe a variety of acts and dispositions. While many might serve evil for personal gain or vengeance, the Shadow of Death commits his atrocities for the simple joy of doing so. His hoard is the company he keeps: Undead abominations and his Saurians, reptilian beastfolk meant to mock his drahcai neighbors to the East. While delighting in the terror his monstrous, sable form inspires, it is not always practical for his experiments. Thus he adopts the shape of the Necromancer, a pallid skinned man in dark robes who looks both alive and dead in equal measure. His mighty death knights ride upon his black dragon offspring, while saurian infiltrators mount giant, often undead, crocodiles to sneak up enemy waterways. Whispers pervade that his true ends are to rule the world by killing everything and raising the corpses as his undead thralls. Some go even further, accusing him of aspiring to undeath himself, seeking to become a fabled Dracolich.
