Oea

Introduction

The second largest city on the known continent. This city sprang up within the last two decades, having its surge of immigration after the second revolt of Stelmond. Those who managed to flee the authoritarian city-state on Fari’Ai and aboard a ship to the new world, made their way mostly to Oea. This of course gives Oea a multi-cultural energy, not seen in many places of Primordia. Even though many of the inhabitants fled the tyrannical rule of the Adol dynasty, they still carry the strict criminal judgement. Oea’s ports are often filled with hanging bodies of pirates and they entry gates with thieves, showing that the city does not engage with that kind of scum or villains. Some of the cities points of interest are:

Candlekeep

Candlekeep is the only library in all of Primordia. It stands as the lighthouse of knowledge, guiding the ships of enlightenment to it. All types of written and oral history is recorded there.

Cathedral of Melora

Erected in 3252, the cathedral is the second largest structure in the entire city, discounting the city walls. The city has her as their devout protector, as it is said that she was the one that calmed the waves for the first refugees that fled from Stelmond and across the sea.

Fendrick's Wharf

As the jewel of the Stolen Coast, Oea wouldn't be complete without a ship wharf. The Entire southernmost district of Oea is dedicated to its ship construction.
Gale Fendrick is well known for his innovations in sea travel. The wharf constructs ships after his schematics. Fendrick was also the designer of the following ship classes:
Ships of War:
  • Gale, 160 ft. Warship
  • Vendetta, 140 ft. Warship
  • Brave-Heart, 95 ft. Interceptor
  • Brotherwing, 80 ft. Cruiser
  • Guidewave, 75 ft. Cruiser
  • Bowbreaker, 60 ft. Interceptor
  • Greensky, 60 ft. Interceptor
  • Stearin, 45 ft. Patrol Ship
  • Godspeed, 45 ft. Patrol Ship
Mercantile Ships:
  • Seamother, 140 ft. Cargo Ship
  • Granger, 100 ft. Cargo Ship
  • Freewave, 95 ft. Cargo Ship
  • Harbourman, 90 ft. Cargo Ship
  • Needlepoint, 50 ft. Cargo Ship

Fishers’ Guild Club

The club was established in 3288 (AtF) and is the main gathering point of fishermen who wish to share stories and techniques.

Esbjer Otto Garden

The memorial of Arch-Enchanter: Esjber Otto, lies within the Garden of his name. The people of Oea sees the ex-colunic arch-enchanter as a hero, as he helped the many refugees and downtrodden to flee the city of Stelmond.
He held back the arcane powers, the other arch-mages fired down upon the fleeing ships, and he was stricken down, still protecting the innocent.
Many statues are dotted around the city, commemorating other heroes of the escape from Stelmond.

Penn Teller’s Magical Messages

One of the only magical courier services in the entirety of the world, Penn Teller's Magical Messages (PTMM) is the safest provider of travel of post or packages to other locations on the continent. The first office opened in 2602 and the service has been reputable ever since.

Grand Temple of the Houses of Parliament

Peoples' House

The House of the commoners, the peoples' house holds six seats of elected officials. Four of them are for the four districts of Oea, one is for the traders and fishers and is the spokes person for the harbour men, and one for the surrounding lands of Oea; typically representing the farmers and foragers. An election is held every six years.
It is these elected people that make laws and create rules for the city and all business that must be done in it.

Council's House

The second house of the parliament is reserved for the learned and those positions that are immemorial. There are three seats in this house; the Candlekeep head librarian, the bishop of the Cathedral of Melora and the arch-mage of Oea. All of these different titles are not elected by the public. However, both the Candlekeep head librarian and the bishop of the Cathedral of Melora are elected by their peers, whilst the arch-mage of the city is always the protege of the previous arch-mage.
The role of these individuals is simply to assure that the laws of the peoples' house does not interfere or ruin the current works or history of them. To pass a law, all three must sign off on it. This is usually not a problem, unless a law is in clinch with one or more of the members organisations.

Times of Trouble

If ever the city was to find itself in turmoil, disaster or in a declaration of war, both houses would work together as a single unit. To make any decision, only a simple majority is needed (5 votes) and these can be from any of the houses.

Belvedere Vineyard

The family of Belvedere is known for its breweries and distilleries across Fari'Ai.
After the surge of Primordia, the family was quick to move parts of their organisation to the new continent.
