A large, horse-shoe shaped land mass in the Great Tear Ocean.

Kernier is a large horseshoe-shaped landmass situated within the Great Tear Ocean. The mainland is divided into several regions, with a number of islands settled between the mainland's two peninsulas, within the Serasian Sea. The continent is split by a series of mountain ranges - The Greater Spine, Lesser Spine, and The Divide. According to Kernian legend, the mainland was first formed by the Draconic Pantheon many thousands of years ago before any of the known races existed, with each region being created by and belonging to a specific draconic clan. Following the Great Dragon War, however, the remaining dragons formed a new land to live in harmony - An island in the Serasian Sea named EnRul. The Mainland was then populated with new races of the Draconic Pantheon creation: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Drakon, and Half-lings.

Now, just over two thousands years since the end of the Great War, Kernier is starting to shift and change, leaving the region of Heliot even more of an arid, inhospitable desert than it used to be. But even more, following these unexplained changes in climate comes a new religion spreading like wildfire through Sernia. A religion that outlaws 'non-divine' magic and enslaves the 'lesser' non-human races. A religion worshiping a being known as The Creator.

Geography

Settled in the Great Tear Ocean, Kernier is a large, vaguely horse-shoe or crescent shaped landmass and encompasses all of the known world. As a continent, Kernier is divided into several regions and kingdoms, each said to be created by one of the Dragon Gods to their preference, or for the betterment of their respective races. Further dividing these regions are mountain ranges, rivers, shifting biomes, and the Serasian Sea itself.

Landmarks

Greater Spine Mountains

Main article: Greater Spine

The Greater Spine mines travel along the entire length of Kernier. These mountains border the eastern edge of Keliador, dividing the mountainous region from Ak'Aidor and Antioch. They then travel south, along the western peninsula, through the middle of both Heliot and Sernia, before coming to a shallow end in foothills before Sernian's southern plains. The other end of the mountains, where they divide Ak'Aidor from Keliador, break off suddenly into the Great Tear Ocean.

Lesser Spine Mountains

Main article: Lesser Spine

The Lesser Spine is a second range of mountains, breaking off from the much taller and larger Greater Spine. These mountains travel along Antioch's north-eastern border, providing a natural boundary between the chaotic land and the Ak'Aidorian ashlands, as well as the humid jungles and swamps of Krasi.

Serasian Sea

Main article: Serasian Sea

Encompassed by Kernier's two peninsulas, the Serasian Sea is a calmer body of water compared to the wild Great Tear Ocean. Almost all travel by boat is done through the sea, as the ocean is deemed far too dangerous to traverse - Especially around the jagged cliffs and rocks that make up the Keliadorian shoreline. The islands of Serasa and EnRul are both contained within the sea.

Regions

Ak'Aidor The Northern Ash-lands

Main article: Ak'Aidor

Home to the Drakon, a draconic people created by the draconic god of shadows, Kithar. Ak'Aidor is a region of both flatlands and mountains and filled with volcanic activity. Eruptions, geysers, and clouds of ash blocking out the sun are common in this region, and sunny days are quite rare. Ak'Aidor is surrounded by both the Lesser Spine to the west, and The Divide, a mountain range separating Ak'Aidor from Krasi to the south and southeast.

Antioch The Central Forest

Main article: Antioch

The center-most region of the mainland, Antioch is home to the Elves, creations of Dizava, the draconic god of chaos. A warmer, forested region, Antioch consists of dense forests, with pockets of seemingly random climates maintained by Dizava's chaotic magic. The elven kingdom is bordered by Heliot to the south, Keliador over the Greater Spine to the northwest, the Serasian Sea to the southeast, and Ak'Aidor and Krasi to the northeast and east.

EnRul The Dragon Islands

Main article: EnRul

Encompassing the majority of the islands in the Serasian Sea, EnRul is the home of the Draconic Pantheon. Legend holds EnRul was formed at the end of the Great Dragon War as the new home of what remained of the Dragons and the Pantheon. While EnRul is an island within the Serasian Sea, a second island serves as a land-barrier between EnRul and the mainland: Serasa.

Heliot The West Deserts

Main article: Heliot

Situated to the west, Heliot isolates Sernia's northern border from the rest of the continent. This region is a hot, arid climate, and consists mostly of desert. Heliot was created by Siriad, the draconic god of wind, and used to be the home of the Gnomes. However, a shift in the climate and the growing religion of The Creator in Sernia drove the gnomes north, to Keliador. Heliot's deserts are said to exist through some form of powerful and ancient magic that saps the region of its humidity.

Keliador The Northwest Mountains

Main article: Keliador

Encompassing the northwestern portion of Kernier, Keliador is a mountainous kingdom of Dwarves, and recently, Gnomes. Created by the draconic god of fire, Faregar, the mountains of this realm serve as the perfect home for both his dwarven people and the gnomish immigrants from the south. There is very little flat land in this realm, and the climates tend to be cold and dry except along the shores.

Krasi The East Plains

Main article: Krasi

Krasi is a land of flat terrain. While this region was created by Giriad, the draconic god of earth, it was gifted to Aurelia's people, the Half-lings. The climate varies from temperate to cold as you go further north, but the entire region is wet and humid, with some areas of swampland.

Serasa The Barrier Island

Main article: Serasa

A long stretch of island in the Serasian Sea, Serasa serves as a land barrier between the mainland and EnRul. The island is said to have been created by Seranas, the Ocean Goddess, though none of her creations call the island home. Instead, Serasa remains largely uninhabited, acting as a challenge for any pilgrims hoping to travel to EnRul.

Sernia The Southwest Lowlands

Main article: Sernia

Created by Justalt, the draconic god of law, Sernia is the homeland of humans. The region is primarily a temperate climate, with many rolling hills and forests. The Greater Spine mountain range cuts down the middle of the peninsula, and continues north into the neighboring regions. Sernia is bordered to the north by Heliot, and on all other sides by the Great Tear Ocean and Serasian Sea.
