Planes

The various planes of existence are completely separate worlds. It is nigh impossible to travel from one plane to another by conventional means (without magic), but there are places in the world where the barrier between planes can be thin, providing a sort of portal to a new dimension. Few brave adventurers have traveled to these other planes. Fewer still have returned to tell their stories.
