Wanderful
Coming home from a long several months at sea, you have grown used to the stews your Secan fellows would make. At first, you could hardly stand the heat, but eventually you got used to it and ended up enjoying it. Filled with complex flavors, with someone always trying some new spice or adding on something new to the meal, there was always a surprise. You had heard talk of their food, and how rousing it was compared to long weeks of potatoes, and it truly was.
Your ship's last stop was Seca, and as the day of arrival grew nearer your Secan fellows would talk longingly about home cooking, saying to you, "if you like the stuff on the ship, you'll love what they have on land!" They invited you out to their favorite restaurant in the capital, and you happily accepted.
They ordered a whole spread, filled with a variety of things--bread, nuts, fried fish, potatoes, eggs, other meats, rice, salad, peppers, beans, and other things too plentiful to name. All the dishes were meant to be shared, and share you did, although you managed to get in a bite of everything. It was incredible. The main dishes were characterized by the spices you were used to on the ship. You and your fellows dined like kings, and you resolved to learn how to cook on the ship so that even if you ended up without them, you could still have their phenomenal cooking.
History
Beginning with native people looking for a way to prepare good food for the journey between islands, and continuing on as both a practical and tasty style of cooking in modern Seca, the tradition of Wanderful has been passed down through the ages.
Originally intended as a method of preparation and seasoning, fish would be seasoned, dried, and put away for use later. Traditionally, this would be put in a hot stew seasoned with herbs to rehydrate somewhat. It was the highlight of the meal, often paired with dried fruits and vegetables. Once potatoes were introduced to the area, they were quickly assimilated as a part of this meal.
As the nation became more prosperous and connected with others, the tradition to prepare food for a long journey gained a branch devoted to the spices used. Instead of just preparing the food for a long journey, people would use the spices to create their own fresher versions, often centered around a stew of some sort. Both aspects of the technique would readily accept new ingredients or techniques as soon as they were introduced.
In modern times, Wanderful has many different aspects to it, but stays true to its core purpose and original taste. Well-seasoned stew based on fish is always a classic for both travelers and home-cooks.
Components and tools
Many spices are used, but in the beginning it was the spices around them. No matter the dish, spice is a critical component, and it isn't true Wanderful if there isn't some spice added to the dish.
