Melerkún /mɛ:lɛ:ʀkhu:n/ is the smallest territory of the Kroks on the Vorran Peninsula in western Dragonía. Located in the east, it's bordered by Velk-í to the north, Naþvotere to the east and Varr to the west.
Historically, the people of Melerkún, known as Irkúns, have alternated between being part of Naþvotere, Varr or Velk-í, as they've always been something of an outlier due to their strict adherence to ancient traditions, some of which date back to the earliest Krok settlement on the peninsula, which has often caused friction in their relationships with neighbouring tribes. They were, for example, slow to adopt the use Tree Silk (ubiquitous clothing material elsewhere on the peninsula), preferring more traditional eretvóa pelts and leather, which most Kroks have long since stopped using.
More recently, the Irkúns have become the only Kroks to shun any contact with the humanoid Jaarels from beneath the Vúrakesen Mountains to the east, believing the latter to be a threat to Krokish culture, a stance which lead the Irkúns to break away from Velk-í and found their own territory, centered on the town of Arra-ú. They've since tried to convince the other tribes to sever their ties to the outside world as well, though with little success.
