Mlakets

Mlakets were once found throughout the Múlíat Mountains in southern Dragonía, from Kvaror to the northwest to Lássordikía to the southeast, but now only two groups remain, namely the Kroks on the Vorran Peninsula and Virrem Islands on the far western part of the continent on one hand, and Exíans in southern Lássordikía.

Appearance and abilities

Mlakets are sapient, bipedal, omnivorous reptiles with stocky bodies, beak-like mouths, and the ability to display their emotions either through patches of chameleon-like skin or thin membranes stretched between one or more crests of spines. The Exíans belong to the former category, with the patch of skin being located on their throat, while Kroks are examples of the latter, having twin crests extending from the back of their head.
The now-gone Amxans had two beard-like crests on their lower jaws; Ilxítans had a tall crest stretching from their nose to the crown of their heads; Irpiks had crests similar to Kroks but curved towards each other; Þveps had a small crest on their nose; and Þráls had a patch of chameleon-like skin like a broad collar around their neck.
Although warm-blooded, Mlakets generally prefer a hot climate, which is why their territory has always been restricted to southern Dragonía.

History

The first Mlaket societies appeared at the end of last ice age, around 35.000 b.Dr., in what is northern Darlaa in the western Múlíat Mountains, whence they expanded over time to the northwest and east, encountering such peoples as Kúxes, Þeþarans and Ázelans over time. Most of these societies later either succumbed to the various tribes of Gobíls migrating southwards and conquering new territories after 15.000 b.Dr or, later on, to increasingly arid climate, safe for the Kroks who migrated westwards and Exíans who lived beyond the region claimed by the Gobíls.
The former established a major civilization and lived in complete isolation until meeting the Jaarels under the Vúrakesen Mountains, while the latter are divided into numerous tribes subsisting on fishing and agriculture.
