Odora

The City of Glass

Odora, the City of Glass and it's territories has forbid the ownership or acquisition of any valuable minerals such as metal, gems or stone. The desert nation has adopted advanced glass crafting techniques to the point of crafting structurally sound buildings as well as weapons, tools and armor. Considering that this nation does not mine minerals, it in theory has many untouched ore veins below it's sands.

Before the Dawn

Before the creation of the sun, Odora had developed a type of glass that would magnify the brightness of light many times over. This glass would later be used in the construction of the great lighthouses that would be used by Ivar, the Divine of Light's clerics to emit sunlight, allowing for some form of daylight to spread across the land. Following the events of the Dawn war, all but one of these lighthouses would be destroyed, leaving the last lighthouse within the City of Glass.

Beacon of Light

Today, the glass lighthouse serves as a waypoint at night, allowing those who travel the desert to always be able to find the City of Glass.

Treading Lightly

Unlike most nations under the rule of the Eternals, Odora goes out of it's way to respect the fact that they are guests in a world that is not their own. In an act of respecting the Prince of Elemental Earth, Odora has sworn off the use of valuable ores, stone and gemstones. It is debated among foreign nations whether the rulers of Odora do this out of either fear, awe or a combination of both. A topic often brought up by philosophers is how everything would change should the primordials return to the mortal world. Some see the fallen gods as relics of the past to be remembered for their sacrifice in bringing the Eternals to this new home. Others, instead choose to hold on tightly to the now fallen gods. Rather than clinging to the past, Odora plans for it's peoples futures.

Hostility Among Neighbours

With Odora revering the Prince of Earth, some hostility has resulted between the desert nation and other Eternal-controlled nations. Some going as far as accusing the residents of Odora of betraying their kind as well as the Old Gods. On the surface, Odora has managed to coexist successfully with it's sibling nations despite it's political stance.

Thieves of Black Earth

A well hidden secret of the City of Glass is it's thieves guild. Rather than stealing for personal wealth, this guild instead steals to venerate the Prince of Earth by retrieving his lost treasures and returning them to the earth. Many secure vaults exist below the desert sands containing all matter of metallic wonders and ornate treasures. These vaults are protected by creatures such as bulettes, gorgons and other creatures that might dwell beneath the earth.   Some merchants of Odora might travel to neighbouring lands with the intention of selling special glass objects in exchange for the common currency. They may also barter these glass objects in exchange for metallic ones just to return home with these precious metals and offer them to the vaults.

Worshippers of the Flame

Followers of Imix, the Prince of Elemental Fire, have also collaborated with the cult of Black Earth with the intention of trying to repair the relationship between the primordial siblings. While some residents have doubts of their intentions, they have worked closely with the local nobility in furthering their goals as well as bringing gifts to be put in the underground vaults. Genies such as the efreet, have come at the behest of these worshippers of Imix.

Rewarded by Genies

The City of Glass is rewarded for it's efforts by either Dao or Efreet who come to Odora to offer favours. These genies are thought to be the ones who taught the techniques of advanced glass crafting to the early founders of Odora and are also the ones who erected many of the glass structures that still stand today.   Some lesser genies are permanent residents of Odora and might serve as the city's head architect or it's mint which fabricates the nations currency of glass coins. Especially important genies would have structures made to look a specific way based on their tastes for when they decide to visit. These buildings will have round-the-clock residents with food and entertainment prepared for if the genie decides to visit. Some of these genies only visit every few decades so the food and entertainment often goes to waste, but the city's nobles would rather discard all that luxurious food than risk offending the genies.   Some genies might request specific items be put on display within their residence to which the city will send or hire adventures to find these objects with utmost urgency.

House M'aiq

Odora and it's neighbouring settlements are run by the Eternal house M'aiq. The house is known across the lands for having the best transportation services and are said to be able to cross any types of terrain. They are often hired by neighbouring nations for expeditions across treacherous terrain such as deserts, mountains and the like. House M'aiq also employs many skilled cartographers that map both the surface and underground terrain. Many wouldn't dare travel through the dangerous terrain that the members of house M'aiq make their journeys through.   Some members of House M'aiq take on the charge of running the thieves guild and will often take on foreign contracts wanting supplies rather than gold in exchange for their services. Any time they do receive coin as payment, the coin is added to the vaults beneath it's sands.

Hot Tempers

The residents of Odora are instructed to treat the genies in even higher regard than the nobility. Genies have very high opinions of themselves and are to be revered and complimented whenever possible. Should any resident offend a genie, whether accidental or intentional, that resident will be executed as a means of apologising to the offended genie. The genie may also offer up an alternative punishment should they feel inclined to do so.
