Old Gods

The Old Gods are part of the long-dead pantheon that was killed off during the time of the The Great Clash. Initially following their deaths, the gods whose Divinity was not claimed by another merged with the new world and later manifested as a vestige of their former selves. Worshippers could still draw power of a dead god so long as the god hadn't faded away completely. Upon fading away, that god's clergy would forever lose their power and connection to their god.   The common understanding of what remains in regards of consciousness or sentience with these vestiges is that they operate more or less on instinct. A vestige will give power to those who follow or enforce the assumed beliefs the dead god had in life. The limitations of what a vestige is capable of perceiving or understanding are speculated at best. Some theorize that what remains of the dead gods aren't even aware of the world around them and that any action they happen to take is based on muscle memory rather than a conscious decision being made on it's part.

The Dead Endure

Some of the Old Gods had planned for their deaths and took measures to preserve their essence for as long as possible. Others had chosen to pass on their spark willingly after being mortally wounded. Kamaria predicted the eventual creation of a new sun and sealed herself inside the pale moon, allowing her to be the light that illuminates the darkness.   Worship is thought to be what allows the dead gods to cling to their fragmented life. Additional measures can be taken to insure that an old god can continue to exist. A willing individual can take in a god's vestige without merging with the Divine spark. This allows the vestige and individual to exist within one body, but still remain separated. Vestige carriers remain mortal and gain none of the powers that come with Divinity, meaning they must pass the essence of the god onto another before they die of either sickness, old age or having been mortally wounded.   The temptation of absorbing the god's essence is very real and something that weighs heavily on the choice of deciding who will carry it next. Should a carrier decide to absorb the vestige, they will become a new Divine and in that same moment, will have caused what remains of the old god to fade away completely. Clergies surviving because of this method run the risk of ceasing to exist at a moment's notice should a carrier fall to this temptation. Presently, there is no known means of resurrecting a faded god.   To prevent this temptation, a child might be chosen to be a carrier at a very young age so they are not aware of what exists inside them. This child will often grow up and be, whether secretly or opening, protected by followers of that god. Some might go so far as to hold that child in captivity by locking it in a prison or cellar as a means of greater protection.

Hidden Gods

Some clergies have gone so far as to stage an event that leads to an old god being falsely assumed dead. The vestige of that god is then secretly kept, usually with a small group. That group might then wipe the very memory from all but one person's mind to add an extra layer of protection for the carrier. Because of this, finding out that an assumed dead god was secretly alive all along is certainly a possibility.

The New Generation

A Divine with significant worship can potentially continue to exist as a vestige like the Old Gods do after death. This can lead to some uncertainty on whether a particular Divine is still alive or not.   List of remaining gods whose vestige still clings to the mortal world despite their death during the Great Clash:
