Night Rose

Night Rose is a rare species of rose that only grows in the zones of forever night in The Faerie Wilds, and only in those zone that happen to also be frozen in the state of forever mid-summer. Because of the ever changing, fragmented state of the Wilds, only a few individuals know where to harvest these flowers, and how to get back to the mundane world with them, making the flowers very valuable and sought after.

Material Characteristics

Night Rose is a type of climbing rose, that can grow to be as tall as ten meters high if the growing conditions are right; it has been suggested that the thorn bushes that surrounded the castle of the Sleeping Beauty in the famous incident (the inspiration for the mundane fable with the same name) were in fact night roses. The flowers are different shades of violet, depending on the place where the rose grows, and only bloom during the night. Both the flowers and the petals are distinctively fragrant. 

Geology & Geography

Night Roses only grow in the forever night, forever summer zones in the The Faerie Wilds. While efforts to cultivate the plant have been made, no success has been made so far. The nights roses seem to prefer a habitat highly infused with magic, as well as places that have fallen into ruins.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Night Rose petals are used in potion making, as well as an ingredient in some of the most expensive perfumes. Certain divination ceremonies also depend on these petals, as it is believed that they heighten the skill of clairvoyance. A love potion made with Night Rose petals is especially potent, and, rumour has it, has been used in some cases where a sovereign has married someone seemingly unsuitable.
