City of Varoona Proper

The great coastal city of Varoona is tucked firmly against the southern Dremoran coast and the Selló River. Tall white walls surround the city and a pristine in color near the top, but turn a more off-white, mottled color near the base as barnacles have attached themselves to the stone. Near the large gates, banners wave gently in the breeze depicting the figure of a female merfolk poised on a rock over crashing waves. Her arm is outstretched, cradling a large pearl surrounded by blue, teal, and aquamarine scales.   As expected of the center of trade in the south, Varoona is a prosperous city. Homes and shops made of white bricks and birch wood decorated with hues of teal, blue, and purple line canals (rather than roads). People of all races and ages walk alongside the canals.   Although the region of Varoona may be generally barren, the city of Varoona is packed with life, trade, and adventure. Welcome to the city of the sea, of trade, and of freedom – or chaos, depending on how you see it.

The Temple of Varoona

Seated directly on the Selló river overlooking Goddess Bay, the Temple is but one of the many wonders of the city. Resembling a U-shaped Greek Temple, the building is composed entirely of marble, decorated with murals of Varoona and her domain. From the river, there are 12 beautiful pillars that hold up the sloping blue and teal shingled roof. Trimmed with silver, the temple appears to glow and shimmer in the sun. A large aquamarine gem, embedded in the center of the roof, glows particularly bright as the sun rises. The large blue doors of the temple are almost always open, only closing hours after the sun has set and opening again before dawn.   The Temple is situated on the Temple plaza. The center of the plaza is dominated by a large fountain containing crystal clear water erupting upward from the base only to fall back down into the basin. Atop the fountain sits a beautifully carved stone statue of a mermaid perched upon a large stone. The area she is perched upon is littered with precious oceanic gems, scales, and other trinkets. She looks upward toward her open outstretched hand with a grin on her face.   The main room of the Temple is covered with Varoona's likeness and domain. In the center, a large, shallow pool of crystal clear water reflects a carefully and beautifully pained mural on the ceiling. Yet another statue of Varoona is placed on one end of the pool of water, depicting her in a human form with the exception of the man scales and fins dotting her form. Along the sides of the pool of water, 12 smaller statues have been evenly placed. One such statue appears to be covered with a silken blanket.

Chaos Reigns - Wild Magic Emporium

Stretching over the Selló River, this white-walled building is entirely covered in a mural dedicated to the more "chaotic" aspects of the Goddess of the Sea. It also features two cities: one situated on land and one underneath the waves. Double doors on either side of the river allow entrance to the emporium.   The first floor is filled with shelves containing product in no clear order or arrangement. In the center, a circular desk is manned by a human woman. Above the desk, a large, ornate, mechanical clock loudly turns, whirs, and clicks. A silver ring sits in the floor with some people waiting around it. Behind the circular desk, there is a set of double, heavyset doors. Rhythmic clangs can be heard from beyond. Two sets of stairs on either side of these sealed doors lead to the open second-story. One side seems to be the workplace of the residence alchemist and the other for the resident tattoo artist.   The desk it typically manned by Beatrice, a young human woman who's main jobs appears to be announcing the silver gate's destination and ringing up purchases. The other three owner's each provide unique services. Auntie Four is one of the resident blood witches who specializes in alchemy and offers monster hunting jobs. Bella Five is the other resident blood witch who specializes in tattooing. Vith seems to be the resident smith, though he remains to be seen.

Bert's Snails

Located in the Bayside district of Varoona, this establishment is the only one with the rights to sell the Purple Kaoz Snail in city of Varoona Proper.

Dragoleé

Located directly on the Temple plaza, what once was a quaint little cafe is now a luxurious full dining experience that specializes in generally well-known for its brunch menu. The executive chef (and owner) has run the establishment for well over a century now. Her recipes draw upon cultural influences from across the continent to create unique, tasty, and elegant dishes. However, the restaurant is most well known for their specialty: créme brûlée prepared fresh and at your table by the resident pseudodragon known as Dragolée.    Inside, light and upbeat music plays from within the luxurious and regal looking cafe. Waiters and Waitresses dressed in slick, neat, and trimmed uniforms of blue, teal, and white with a small logo of a pseudodragon on the chest move throughout the various rooms. As they pass from room to room, the logo shifts, adopting the colors that match the various rooms.

The Blue End Galleon

Near the piers of the Bayside district, a large, ancient vessel sits – permanently land bound. Although merely a carcass of the majestic vessel it once was, it has been put to good use as it now houses the hottest spot in town. Pulsing lights can be seen almost every night from across the city, but the synthetically and magically amplified beats are contained within the "Bubble". Featuring two dance floors - with different DJs - two separate bars, and a VIP lounge, the Galleon is where the rebellious noble teenagers and the up-and-coming socialites go to mix and mingle... and perhaps even cause some chaos.

Carmine's Inn & Tavern

Located next to the bounty hunting office, Carmine's tavern is frequented by traveling and local bounty hunters alike. Although locals do occasionally select Carmine's as their drinking place for the evening, the tense atmosphere created by bounty hunters sizing each other up and striking deals involving exchanges of information, gold, or other goods... tends to keep most of the locals away. The owner, an elven woman by the name of Carmine, doesn't appear to mind.

Lark'Hevegó Theater of the Arts

This beautiful and grand theater is funded by the air genasi royal family from Lark'Hal. Currently, the theater is hosting a traveling troupe of dancers - including a supposedly impressive sword dancer - and a theater group performing a popular, dramatized play.

Siren's College of Bards

Spanning the space between the docks and the Lark'Hevegó Theater, the Siren's Bard College is one of the shinig monuments of Varoona's success... and the city's turbulent past. The majority of the buildings appear to have been newly renovated as they've been destroyed relatively consistently since the college's founding 200 years after the fall of the Dread King. The only exception is the large tower that stands near the Main Hall. This tower was believed to be enchanted by one of the founding members of the college – one of the daughters of the Valdove patriarch at the time. While it is a relatively weak enchantment, she was believed to be beloved of Varoona and thus, her tower has been spared the storms and typhoons sent by Varoona in her rage.   Given it's resilience, the Tower houses many of the more expensive and historical collections of instruments and old music as well as a small library of original manuscripts and books. Very few are allowed access. For students, visitors, and much of the faculty, the Main Hall houses a vast array of instruments (to be rented or bought), music rooms, a theater and other performance halls, a small library, and various offices and meeting rooms.   The other two buildings - which fit around the campus square and green - house large gathering spaces as well as smaller performance halls and study nooks. They also serve as dorms organized by specific concentrations or "majors". Graduating seniors take their finals early, putting on spectacular performances for the first part of the Namakan Games, as has been the tradition for the past 500 years. Up-and-coming bards of all ages, however, can be seen on the square performing for the citizens and tourists of Varoona on most nights.
