The Dragon Clans

All activity on Porcelain Avenue halts as trumpets blare and the drumbeat sounds. The citizens of Caliban immediately part, making way in the center of the street. Some residents are kind enough to pull ignorant tourists out of the way before the first spectacular litter rounds the corner. Carried by servants, a red dragonborn sits upon a silver lined throne with black, red, and silver silks. Behind him, 9 other litters follow bearing the remaining dragon colors: blue, white, green, black, bronze, copper, silver, gold, and brass.   At the far end of Porcelain Avenue... in the window of an unassuming teashop... 10 porcelain cups have been displayed. The Dragon Clans are convening once again.

Overview

Members of each Clan tend to prefer to intermingle with their own. They are generally self-sufficient and incredibly prideful, which typically means that if there is an issue arising in one clan, it is unlikely that any of the other clans will hear about it. Despite their pride, the preservation of their "draconic superiority" is the priority. If it is truly needed, clans will first seek aid from their own group - metallic or chromatic - and then to all clans. Only in matters of true desperation will they willingly request aid from non-draconic humanoids.   Given their belief in the inferiority of those who lack draconic lineage, it is no surprise that the Dragon Clans have practiced slavery for years. Although the sale of slaves has formally (and relatively recently) ended, the presence of those who remain in slavery is rarely hidden. Treatment of slaves varies by Clan. Regarding draconic races (dragonborn, half-dragons, kobolds, and lizardfolk, in some cases), slavery is considered as punishment for only the most despicable of crimes. And, for most, death is preferred over the dishonor of a life in bondage.

The Chromatic Dragon Clans

The Chromatic Clans are generally more militaristic, subscribing to the authority of the Moon Guard over the Oracle.
  1. The Black Dragon Clan values strength. They control vast plots of land, which they use to grow primarily coffee. Their household is composed primarily of black dragonborns, kobolds, and lizardfolk. They are led by Tetsuya the Black.
  2. The Blue Dragon Clan values presentation. They control a small handful of mines, which they use to mine metal and gems for their jewelry. Their household is primarily composed of blue dragonborn, kobolds, and those of great beauty. They are led by Sephora the Blue.
  3. The Green Dragon Clan values wit and intelligence. They are invested in technology and control various modes of transportation. Their household is primarily composed of green dragonborn, lizardfolk, Yuan-Ti, and Kalashtar. They are led by Suyin the Green.
  4. The Red Dragon Clan values honor. They are responsible for producing a majority of the porcelain in the region. Their household is primarily composed of red dragonborn, kobolds, tieflings, fire genasi, and a handful of other races. They are led by Guarava the Red.
  5. The White Dragon Clan values intensity. They are excellent warriors, often serving as enforcement or in the Moon Guard. Their household is primarily composed of white dragonborn and various other races. They are led by Jahdiel the White.

The Metallic Dragon Clans

The Metallic Clans are generally more religious, subscribing to the authority of the High Oracle over the Moon Guard.
  1. The Brass Dragon Clan values conversation. They primarily serve as ambassadors and organize the festivals of the region. Their household is primarily composed of brass dragonborns, kobolds, and various other races. They are led by Fahari the Brass.
  2. The Bronze Dragon Clan values organization. They often serve as administration and occupy a large portion of positions in the naval branch of the Moon Guard. Their household is primarily composed of bronze dragonborn, kobolds, and Keresello. They are led by Kuroshio the Bronze.
  3. The Copper Dragon Clan values ingenuity. They operate many workshops, which produce much of the regions silk, fabrics, and technology. Their household is primarily composed of copper dragonborn, kobolds, lizardfolk, and various crafty individuals. They are led by Curupiru the Copper.
  4. The Gold Dragon Clan values poise. They create and distribute the many teas local to the region as well as the Star-Root Paste. Their household is primarily composed of gold dragonborn. They are led by Parvathian the Gold.
  5. The Silver Dragon Clan values people. They oversee the production of various spices and oversee museums with history and relices. Their household is primarily composed of silver dragonborn, Kalashtar, and various other races. They are led by Evanna the Silver.

The Maw

There is significant fear surrounding any discussion of "The Maw". Within each of the Dragon Clans, the Maw marks the entrance to the lair of a pair (or perhaps more) of dragons of the color of the Clan beneath which they reside. For some, descending into the Maw is a great honor, but for others... it is a horrible punishment.
