Beacrant

The Beacrants or in formal terms, Beacranntus, are a race of very small humanoids with various types of insect wings for mobility. Though not quite as small as a fairy or pixie, these little people certainly have no problem hiding in nature around them and can be found in almost any place with healthy foliage. Blessed and created by several gods, the Beacrants are exceptionally made for and good in three distinct areas:
  • The healing and enhancement of nature
  • The aiding in helping weary people sleep
  • Helping people express their real emotions
Beacrants are known for being joyful, energetic, and whimsical, and this side of them only really deviates if they are corrupted or having a really hard time. Try as the might, even the most well-behaved Beacrant loves a good prank on their friends and loved ones, and they will sometimes go fully out of their way just to have a little mischief; nonetheless, this tendency towards mischief is never malicious in nature, and if a Beacrant finds they have done a person harm in their prank, they often bind themselves in an oath to their victim until they have aided that person in an equal measure to their crime.   On top of being very pleasant and happy individuals, Beacrants are also very known for the way they impact nature around them. Given their natural proclivity towards the arcane, a Beacrant knows how to alter nature to make a house out of a tree or grow a mushroom farm in places it wouldn't normally be able to grow, and they do all this without harming the nature they messed with in any fashion. In fact, oftentimes it is not uncommon for Beacrants to make entirely new microbiomes where they have set up one of their colonies. These unique microbiomes are completely self-sustaining and if abandoned will continue to be a permanent feature of the land until it is destroyed by other creatures.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Beacrants are small humanoid beings with specific distinct features:   First and foremost, a Beacrant is usually no taller than 12 inches, and most Beacrants are smaller than this on average.   Second, all Beacrants have pointy ears that point upwards   Thirdly, a Beacrant typically has different color hair, depending on the environment they are born in and the plants they surround themselves with.   Finally, all Beacrants have insectoid wings of some sort that glow and are vibrant. The type of wings they inherit all depend on their parents and it affects the types of magic they are most skilled in.

Genetics and Reproduction

Beacrants reproduce fairly strangely in comparison with all other sentient races. Though a Beacrant has the ability to have sex like any normal humanoid race, this is not how they manage to reproduce after their own kind. Once every year at the end of the Winter Solstice or the very beginning of the Spring Solstice, two Beacrants, both the male and the female, will begin to have a vibrant, light-green, sticky substance begin to form on the palms of their hands. In this green substance is all the DNA necessary to combine together to form a new Beacrant baby, but to ensure the baby is conceived a few things must be done first:
  1. The two Beacrants, male and female, must hold hands, squeeze them, and then slow pull away, scraping together both their green sticky goo together into one ball.
  2. The new green ball of sticky goo must be placed onto one of three types of seeds: A fruit seed, a flower seed, or a weed seed.
Once the seed has absorbed the green, sticky goo of the two Beacrant parents, they must plant it and by late Spring or mid-Summer, once the plant has reached full sexual maturation, the plant will also produce a single Beacrant baby that will be born out of a small glowing orb that matches the color of the plant. This orb will be in the center of the plant's head. So if the plant is a flower, in the center of the head of the flower will be a glowing orb that remains attached to that spot on the flower until the baby is born.   For the Beacrants, they must already be in a sexual relationship with someone of the opposite sex before their hands start producing the sticky, green goo in the late Winter, early Spring. If a Beacrant has been sexually inactive for an entire year, or they have not reached sexual maturation, they will not have the sticky, green goo on their palms. It is also important to note that Beacrants cannot reproduce asexually or with a homosexual partner. The required DNA is only found when the DNA is mixed between both a male and female Beacrant.   Beacrants become fully sexually mature and ready to start reproducing as young as 8 years of age and remain able to mate until age 30. After that point, males and females no longer produce the same sticky, green goo. Once sexually mature, and if sexually active, during their reproduction season, a Beacrant couple can impregnate a new seed once a day for up to a week; after this, the goo on their hands will dry up and cease to form for the rest of the year. This means that a Beacrant couple can produce up to 10 babies a year.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tragic as it may seem, Beacrants are short-lived beings. Having a max lifespan of about 75 years, and living up to 50 on average, these little people don't stick around for too, too long. As such, the initial maturation process of a Beacrant is wild, rapid, and uncomfortable for a youngling.   From birth to their first year, a Beacrant grows from only being about 2-3" at birth to twice that, coming to be the equivalent of a preschooler by the end of that year.   After their first year, the growth of Beacrant slows down a little and from ages 2-4 they essentially hit their childhood years, growing in musculature, knowledge, and it is here that they start to learn and gain their innate connection to nature magic.   Then from ages 4-7, the Beacrant begins their teenage phase and their desire to cause mischief really skyrockets in these formative years. In this phase of life, a Beacrant can become sexually active, and often they will act on their sexual impulses if not properly parented, but their bodies do not yet produce the necessary sticky, green goo for reproduction. During their teenage years, a Beacrant's body will go through more rapid growth and by the end of their teenage years, they will finally grow to their final heights, which range from 8-10".   When a Beacrant reaches age 8 and from then until age 20, a Beacrant finally reaches their young adult phase, and their hormones and bodies settle. At this point, a Beacrant is fully mature, and if they have been sexually active with a partner of the opposite sex, at this point, their bodies will start to form the sticky, green, goo on the palms of their hands. During these years, a Beacrant will start to marry a life partner, help the community, and begin to explore beyond their community if they feel inclined to do so. It is within the nature of a Beacrant to both want to explore to other parts of nature and change it, as well as seek out other races and learn from them.   At ages 20-35, a Beacrant settles into their adult years, and their desire to explore wains slowly, causing them to want to settle back in with their original community they were born in, or in the new community they have come to be a part of. It is at this point that the Beacrants start to learn sleep magic, and they often start to help new families with their unruly children. If a Beacrant is living in the presence of other sentient races, it is not uncommon for them to help other races with their sleep problems as well.   From age 35-40, the Beacrant goes through a brief middle age period where their hard starts to turn while, and their skin starts to sag a little. On top of this, an aging Beacrant's wings slowly start to lose their natural glow, though they do not lose their color.   From age 40 to their final breath, the Beacrant finally enter their elder age and their bodies fully reflect this. By this point, a Beacrant's hair will turn completely white and in some cases become thin, the skin will sag, and their wings will completely lose their glow.

Ecology and Habitats

Beacrants can live in any environment with healthy nature. The only places you will not see a Beacrant, are in volcanic areas, desert dunes, sulfur fields, or arctic wastelands. Other than these places, if there is plant life that is not completely unhealthy and dying or perverted, a Beacrant can easily adapt-to and live there.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Beacrants are mostly vegetarians and enjoy a wide arrange of plants from vegetables to fruits, to mushrooms.

Biological Cycle

During the late parts of the Winter Solstice to the earliest days of the Spring Solstice, a young, sexually active Beacrant will have a sexually fertile week somewhere in that time frame. During those 10 days, a Beacrant and their mate are able to impregnate one seed a day for that entire week and this can give them a harvest of up to 10 babies come the end of Spring to the middle part of Summer, depending on the plant fertilized.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Though it is rare to see this happen through the exploitation by other races who know of a Beacrant community, it is known that the wings of a Beacrant can be ground down and used as an ingredient for extra potent health potions. Potions with the ground down wings of a Beacrant are able to rapidly heal deep cuts and wounds from a battle or attack, and though it is a rumor, it is also believed that it can help a severed limb completely reconnect if both ends are simply placed next to each other.

Facial characteristics

All Beacrants have pointy ears that grow upwards.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Though they are not easy to find, a Beacrant is more likely to be found in heavily forested areas and in jungles of any sort.

Average Intelligence

The Beacrants are all completely sentient, but their level of intelligence depends on their areas of interest. Every Beacrant is interested in nature-related things and sciences, and each Beacrant has a talent in some area involving the same field of interest. In these areas, the Beacrant is genius in understanding, especially if it involves the arcane. However, when it comes to technology or other things not related to nature, a Beacrant is usually ambivalent about such matters and their knowledge on them are typically skin-deep.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Beacrants have various traits that set them apart from other sentient races. On average, almost every Beacrant has strong ties with nature magic and can control plants, soil, and the flow of water with decent ease, equal up to 10x their size. In other words, if a Beacrant is 1', they can affect an area of nature and water up to a 10' radius. In order to change anything bigger than 10', multiple Beacrants must work together to complete this change, or the individual Beacrant must patiently work on different parts of the part of nature they seek to alter at a time.   A Beacrant does not have to be besides what they are trying to modify with arcane magic but can affect a 10' radius of something up to 15' away from it. This means that if there in an object 15' away from where they reside, they can affect that thing and everything around it up to 10' from the Beacrant's targeted epicenter.   Beacrants, despite being smaller, have no problem seeing things as well as a normal-sized Drimorian, as their eyes let in enough light to even see in darker conditions. Despite being able to see well at night, Beacrants do not have darkvision. Beacrants also have really good hearing for their size, being able to hear things as well as a normal-sized Drimorian.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

In the Beacrant culture, it is common to use flower, fruit, rock, gem, tree, and seed names in some variations for naming schemes.

Gender Ideals

The Beacrants are an equal society when it comes to sharing responsibilities between men and women. That being said, the Beacrants often still fall into roles their bodies have best prepared them for, and as such, it is not abnormal for the men to be the defenders and providers for the family, while the women take tend to stay with their original community and help run the home. Nonetheless, there is an equal population of men and women working to provide food for each Beacrant community, as it takes decent work to farm the land to support the whole without also tilling the ground as most non-Beacrant farmers do to make plenty of space for growing the max amount of food. Not to mention, for the first quarter of the year, part of the land the Beacrants use, is for the growth of their next generation of children.

Relationship Ideals

Ideally, it is normal and encouraged for two Beacrants, a man and a woman, to get married after they have courted each other. Monogamous marriage is encouraged in the Beacrant culture, and sexual promiscuity, although expected amount youths, is still discouraged by older Beacrants.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Due to their small size and irregular ways of reproducing, it is almost impossible for a Beacrant to be sexually involved with another race. As such, romantic relations with other races are possible but extremely uncommon. On top of this, it is almost taboo for a Beacrant to enter into a relationship with someone of another race.
