Serran Nuwar (Saer-Ran Nu-Wa-R)

Hero Serran Nuwar (a.k.a. Angel Boy)

At one point in a cavern system on Janshima Island, Serran was with his friends trying to end a curse that was preventing anyone from leaving the island. While on this quest, while Serran was deep within the cave, he was suddenly, inexplicably snapped away from that reality and brought to another reality entirely. Now, all of a sudden, Serran found himself on planet Earth, in the United States of America, and specifically in a city called Paragon. How Serran got there, is still entirely a mystery.   Once Serran found himself on Earth, it took him several months to figure out how to live in a world that was almost half a millennia of years more advanced than his own. Though Serran was still surrounded by many super-powerful beings, he had never seen cars, phones, radios, or tall towers of any kind... And that was only half of the culture shock he experienced. Shortly upon arriving, Serran encountered Adapton in her full suit of armor, and this woman took him in long enough to overcome being freaked and overwhelmed by all he was seeing, but she couldn't properly help him understand why he ended up on another world.   After Adapton, Serran met many more heroes and asked many questions to make sense of his situation, but no one could truly answer his hardest questions. Why was he plucked out of his home and sent somewhere else entirely, with different people, different religions, and different technologies? How will he get back to Drimore... Or is it even possible? Did he make a god angry? No one could fully answer these things for him.   Today, Serran flies across the streets and buildings of Paragon, looking for new friends and ways to prove himself to the gods, by taking down evil and villains wherever they may hide.

Physical Description

Body Features

Serran is somewhat scrawny for a regular Alatash, and he hasn't put much focus into body development. He's not weak, he's just not strong either.

Identifying Characteristics

Serran is an Alatash born over the ocean, and this has caused him to have natural blue wings. Nothing stands out more on Serran than his blue wings.

Physical quirks

Growing up, and as a source of embarrassment, Serran's wings developed slower than usual, reaching full maturation at around 19, instead of the usual age of about 16 or 17. Today, however, his wings are fully strong and normal.

Special abilities

Serran has the ability to masterfully manipulate water of any kind. He can pull water out of the air with some strain, or out of a body of water with ease. He can turn water into ice, purify the water of impurities, and even make clouds you can safely stand on.   Serran also has minor psionic abilities from his studies with Silvester. Serran is able to speak directly to people's minds if he can visibly see them, cast powerful hallucinations that are both seen and felt, and perform different types of trickery just for fun. With great strain, Serran can also cast mass hallucinations, though this quickly leaves Serran drained. Recently, Serran has learned the ability to control the minds and bodies of a nonsentient creature, but if he is not careful, this can cause him to have a massive migraine.   Finally, and so far Serran is not sure how he did this, nor how to stop it when it happens, Serran can occasionally pull him and someone else into a mental plane. Serran has the ability to control the mental plane but does not know how to get out of it, once inside.

Personal history

Serran is the youngest fledgling of 5 siblings, and his birth process was much easier for his mother, Ulia. Instead of developing in a two-egg pregnancy, he was the only fertilized egg, and as such, Ulia was very grateful for that. When Serran was born, Ulia immediately took him under her wing, and he quickly became her favorite son. This, coupled with the fact that Serran was both weaker and smarter than his siblings, lead to him being picked on often and even excluded from the games they would play. Serran was often the favorite child by everyone he didn't want to impress. Serran was loved by his mother, and he was sorta taken under the wing of his grandfather, Hideaki Nuwar, but for him growing up, all he wanted was to impress his father and older siblings. Try as he might to overcome his siblings' distaste for him, Serran's siblings resented him because of Serran's over-confident exterior and because of his family's favoritism.   However, this did not stop Serran from being all he could be, and instead, Serran threw himself into learning everything he could, even practicing charisma, learning how to work around any situation, and turn things in his favor. For the longest time, Serran did this in desperation to be liked by those he looked up to, though this only made him more disliked as a know-it-all. At school, however, Serran was well known and that popularity went to his head, causing him to act out and cause trouble. Towards the end of his adolescence and schooling, Serran's father, Akomaru began to step up and become more active in his life, especially with two other siblings fully grown and living on their own. This proved very helpful for Serran, and he began to heal emotionally and finally get some of what he was always striving for: acceptance.   When Serran finished school, he wanted to take his powers with water manipulation to higher heights and become all he could be. This inspiration came out of a poor decision he made to reject the gift his grandfather had for him on Serran's coming of age celebration. For male Alatash, it is custom to give each son a weapon at age 18 to defend themselves and their future families. Mr. Hideaki gave his grandson his very own crafted water blade hilt, and Serran, seeing the new hilts his brothers got, openly rejected his weapon and even publically made it known before his friends and family on that day. This hurt his grandfather and angered his parents. After the party ended and Serran was reprimanded, they sat him down and explained all the work that went into the hilt he was receiving as a gift, and when he understood, he found a new respect for his grandfather and family.   Thereafter Serran soon became an acolyte at an arcane school in Umorlia, but quickly found out how to master his skills and wanted to learn more than the school could teach. One day, Serran discovered that there was a way he could take his intelligence to a whole new level and project it on others to gain more information on them, as well as control what they see and feel. It was apparent that this knowledge was forbidden in Umorlia, but Serran's old nature to learn and control wasn't gone, so Serran left despite the warnings to go and learn more about this. His journeys took brought him to Sorapoli where he has found a teacher who was willing to teach him this arcane knowledge, and that man was Silvester Furmilo.   Serran has been through a lot, and frankly, these things he's been through have hit him all at once, with very little respite.   Up until 1050ABD, Serran had only ever known two locations: Umorlia, his hometown, and Sorapoli, the place of his current residence and study under the psionic master, Silvester Furmilo. However, as fate would have it, Silvester sent his apprentice out to do a simple task of retrieving water specifically from the large body of water closest to Sorapoli, Miro Lake, and from there, nothing has remotely been the same for Serran.   While gathering water for his master, Serran encountered a strange group of people on a military ship, headed to the Ancora Kingdom to help in the decades-long war with the Silvers. On this ship were Aurra, Beolore, Kiernan, and Mimyra as well as many Daoine, as they were the contingency that was being sent to the Ancora Kingdom to help. From that point forward, Serran went on to help in a war he knew nothing about in Ancora, then help stop a plague that was affecting the desert Daoine of Ra Minol, and finally end up on a cursed island with several of his new friends. During his time there, Serran was suddenly snatched out of the cave and he immediately found himself smack dab in the middle of Paragon City. Dazed and confused, it took Serran months to get his bearings in a strange new world that was technologically more advanced than his own...   But sure enough, Serran soon got used to Earth, a world far away from his own, and now Serran is regularly fighting crime in the city, desperately trying to prove himself to the gods so that he can return home.

Education

Serran has attended:
  • Regular Grade School (Umorlia)
  • Arcanic School (Umorlia)
  • Silvester's Academy of Psionics (Sorapoli)

Employment

Serran is currently employed by Paragon City as a hero to fight crime.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Serran has fought in the most recent battle of Ancora against the Silver Dragons, helped find a cure for a mysterious plague in Ra Minol, and helped defeat the woman who started the plague. From here, Serran got marooned on a cursed island called Janshima Island, and it was here that he help defeat a small army of Tricerators and raptors raiding a village.   Once Serran got into the cave to break the curse of Janshima Island, Serran suddenly then found himself on Earth in Paragon City and has fought hard against the Hellions, Freaks, and many more villains.

Mental Trauma

Serran still has slight PTSD from the recent battle of Ancora and from a mental assault by Aurra Maudelyn. Other than this, Serran is fairly stable, even given his current situation being in a different world altogether.

Intellectual Characteristics

Serran is very adept at water magic, so much so, he focuses more on psionics because it challenges him greater. Serran has enough knowledge about water magic, that he is cable of moving large amounts of water from just about any source and bend it to do his bidding.   Serran is very smart and understands more than he allows others to know. Oftentimes, Serran likes to hide his intelligence in a poorly timed joke that irritates people.

Morality & Philosophy

Serran's morality and philosophy is a mix of his own traditional culture of the Alatash, and that of his own. Like most Alatash, Serran is very respectful to people he trusts, and he is willing to help others in need who are suffering. But Serran doesn't just limit his generosity to people of his race, unlike the Alatash. More or less, Serran believes in equality of the different races.   Serran is also not one for lingering on negative emotions for too long. This does not mean that Serran never allows himself or others to feel bad, but rather, if he has the ability to laugh off his problems, he will. That said, Serran is only mediocrely good with comedy, and usually tends to be more sarcastic and annoy others.

Taboos

Serran would never cut the wings off of a fellow Alatash unless he knew they were deserving of such a punishment. An Alatash's wings are their life, and to no longer have wings, is to be useless in Serran's eyes. Alatash are born to fly.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Serran is presently motivated to get back to his world, Drimore, and he is currently convinced the way to do that is to please the gods somehow.

Likes & Dislikes

Serran really enjoys rice, and Serran can eat rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Serran also likes ocean fish and finds he prefers that to river fish due to the saltier flavor of an ocean fish.   Serran doesn't really like most drinks that are not water. Having lived in a cloud city most of his life, water is what's most abundant, so anything else is foreign to him. That said, Serran has recently been introduced to teas, and is finding that to be relatively enjoyable. His favorite tea presently is a simple hot green tea.   As of late, Serran has really come to love apple fritter donuts.

Social

Contacts & Relations

In this alternate reality, Serran has made some friends, but few have really stuck. To some degree, Serran has made friends with his first contact ever, Adapton, and later with a woman who goes by the name Mother Freedom. Other than these two people, Serran hasn't made any closer relationships yet... Mostly a long stream of acquaintances with fewer closer friends, though he is starting to get to know a new acquaintance who is planning to help him build a house for the homeless: Jonathan.

Family Ties

Serran's mother is Ulia Nuwar Serran's father is Akomaru Nuwar Serran has 4 other siblings, all of which are brothers Serran's grandfather on his father's side is Mr. Hideaki Nuwar.

Social Aptitude

Serran is generally pretty charismatic and enjoys making new friends, putting himself into new situations to get to know others.

Speech

Serran speaks with a mild Japanese accent.

Though Serran is one technical person, there is a version of him that was ripped out from Janshima Island and transported into both the future and another world entirely. Now this Serran exists in Paragon City as a hero protecting America from threats.

In comes a crazy kid...
May 23rd, 2022

Very interestingly, just the other day, I ran into a boy in King's Row... Or rather, this boy ran into me. For once, in I don't know how long, I was trying a different route when it comes to dealing with the criminals of Paragon City. I was talking to them... Trying to get them to reason. Turns out, one of the Skulls I was dealing with in King's Row, was willing to talk and rethink his life choices...   But just as I was convincing him to do so, in comes this crazy kid. I didn't quite get his name... That would have been smart? Nor am I sure I gave him mine... That would have been even smarter. Eh. Well anyways. This kid, dressed in purple and an overcoat, comes in and messes with the minds of these Skulls and makes them go all crazy. One went off and committed suicide, and the other almost got away with it too, if it wasn't for me stopping her. And that's where the story between this kid and me started. Fighting over keeping a woman from committing suicide, with him for it, and me against it... 'Cause again, I was trying a different route.   So there we were, standing on a wall that looked over a steep drop into the traffic below, and I both confronted and opened up that kid to me. Here was a kid that hated people because of how he was treated... So he stuffed that hate and let it out as "jokes" against others, so he could get them before they could get him. Feels all too familiar in some ways, yet different in others. I see myself in that kid, but like, a worse off me. It's sad. He had no real home too, which made it worse. Now I've taken him under my wing, after a lot of talking him down and showing him other perspectives... And my first goal? Find him... And I guess now myself? A safe place to stay. All this time, I've been up in the clouds, keeping to myself at night... But I'm not going to expect a non-Alatash kid to come to join me in the clouds. I'll find a place... I have the connections. I guess meeting him took me off the streets too.

More Friends
May 10th, 2022

Pocket D is definitely become another home for me. I keep going here, thinking I am just going to be there because it's safe, and I can get an endless supply of drinks and food... Only to find someone, or they find me, and today is no different. Today I made three new friends. One of them was a crab spider working against Arachnos... One was Kassie, and she was amused by my lack of understanding of technology... And still, another was this dead, yet living girl. She had died 35 years ago, yet came back to life right about the time I found myself in Paragon City on Earth. That's crazy! She was very nice, though she seemed to not believe that she could make friends. I find that odd. She claims it was her looks, and certainly, she looked like death... But it wasn't her personality, and I feel that counts for something bigger than looks. Who knows. Maybe that's because she is not the first living dead I encountered. I swear, that island? It had forced me to grow up a great deal... Kinda worried about it. Am I going to be the same person?

I might just make it off of Earth!
May 11th, 2022

Wow. What a turnaround this day has been! I have gone from having just about no hope of getting off of Earth and back to Drimore, that I was pretty much planning on completely setting down here in Paragon... Something I honestly still plan to do to some degree. But wow... Wow! I might get to see my home again, and my friends and family! Praise Mishabar!   So that said, who have I met to change these fates, you may ask? Well, it was Kassie and her new fiance... Whom I actually haven't met just yet... But that's beside the point. She and her Fiance say they could help out with some form of arcane power... And then there was Carly and Barbara. Now Carly is the one who says she can use her sciences to help locate my world, but Barbara is one of Kassie's friends and someone who may help me with my homeless shelter, on a separate note. Also, it was Barbara who really listened to me well, and I gotta say, I appreciated that. Though she won't be helping with getting me back home, she did help me vent a bit, and that helped... Come to think of it, so did Kassie. Huh! They are both pleasant people.   So man... It's been a good day! The future has never been brighter!

DONUTS!!
February 25th, 2022

Today when I went to Pocket D, a new person, whom I had never met named Bianca, or De Ja Vu, as she was known as a superhero, introduced me to donuts! WOW! What a treat! At first, I tried the maple syrup ones... They were pretty good. Then I tried this apple fritter one? That was disgusting. Yuck! And then I tried just plain ones... And man! This must be the food of the gods! So divine!!!   Either way, I made a new friend today, and she helped me out of an anxious place I was in... She even taught me how to send and receive texts and contacts on that thing people call a smartphone. That was pretty cool. So yeah! It turned into a nice day, and I hope to meet her again.

Mishabar has to be watching over me!
December 24th, 2021

I'm telling you now, I feel as if Mishabar is watching over me in this strange world called "Earth". Not only have I started to make friends, but I have also made some pretty strong connections such as Mr. Impenetrable, Mother Freedom, and now this guy named Larry! And let's not forget Dal. Shoot...   Today I have started a new supergroup in Paragon, and it's called H.O.M.E, or its longer name which is "Haven for Outcasts, Mutants, and the Enhanced", and already, this group has one person to help it be built: Mr. Impenetrable, one person to help fund it: Dal, and one person to help it be legal and not have problems: Larry.   This could not have been more perfect. All I have to do is lead this shelter, and I already have a whole team to help me make sure it gets run properly. We have decided to construct our first shelter in Faultline... Something I worked out with Larry Law... Which... He's an interesting character... But yeah! That's where we are going to build this, because he says it's cheaper, and much closer to heroes and people who need desperate help, so why not? Atlas should be fine, generally speaking.   So all this, it's got me thinking. I feel as if Mishabar is watching over me! This is the first time I've felt connected to him... The first time I've felt truly SEEN by my gods. So now? I think it's going to be okay. Perhaps this shelter is the very thing I am being tested over, to see if I am worthy to return home...   Mishabar? If you are watching me and listening? Please continue to help me do this right. I want to help people, truly, and I also want to get home.

Starting a Supergroup for the homeless
December 12th, 2021

The other day, as I was wandering around Steel Canyon, where, as fate would have it, I ran into Mother Freedom again, as she was working on dealing with Freaks who were causing more of a problem in the city! Right away, she and her friend, Jonathan, pulled me into their radio channel when they saw me there, and I flew over to where they were fighting. It turned out, they were fighting Freaks in the sewers, as well as the undead, which was... Really odd. Is this another attempt of the Freaks trying to surpass death like they always seem to? Do they want to become immortal? I really don't like the concept...   Either way, after we finished dealing with that sort of problem, Mother Freedom, Jonathan, and I all went back to Pocket D to rest and catch up. The last time I saw that duo was at the very least a month ago... If not more, so I had to catch up! In this moment, I had my first chance to bring up the idea I was working on since my last journal entry: making a homeless shelter for heroes with no home. Though it took a bit of explaining, it turned out that both of them were open to helping out, and after a bit, Mother Freedom called over his father, the "Prince of Freedom", Dal. The purpose of her doing that, was because Dal had money, and he was able to help fund our newly budding project.   The requirement? We needed to make a sturdy plan before he would fund it.   And so here we are: Kelly, Jonathan, and I, we are all going to start planning out how we are going to form a "Supergroup"... Something required by the Paragon City authorities, in order to gain the clearance to make a homeless shelter. Turns out, Jonathan already has experience building things, so I hope he can really help with that... But I suspect Kelly may best be of help when it comes to finding those who need a helping hand... She seems like the warm-hearted type who connects with people easily. Heck! Perhaps I can even find that Anaga girl who came from my realm, and she can help us too! I'm not sure though... Could be a fluke... But either way, we'll see.   Anteros, if you are reading this? Please bless this. Help us spread your love to the homeless and the outcasts of Paragon City and the United States of America! I do not know this world well... But hopefully, you do, and you can help us with this.

Providing homes for the homeless
December 8th, 2021

Today I decided to spend some time in Pocket D again. Unlike how things are on my own homeworld, this world seems to have varying outside temperatures. Though it's not been too cold, it's also not been too warm either, and I wanted to spend some time warming up inside. Air condition... This place realm has air conditioning, and that's really nice, though somewhat unnecessary with water magic...   Anyways! While in Pocket D, I seemed to have had two women come and eavesdrop on me in a conversation with a man who was mysterious and regularly grinning. I was talking about how there is nothing but horse-drawn carriages where I'm from, and the main lady said she liked horses and interjected herself into the conversation. It was sorta rude, but I decided to allow it, and I am so glad I did. Turns out, her and... All I could assume would be her friend... Were poor heroes whom a goddess had given powers to, and they were poor. Well, guess what? I'm poor too, having been ripped from my home realm! So I thought, you know what? We could work together and provide for each other, forming a Supergroup and making a shelter for ourselves...   This got me thinking. If we can work together to make a shelter for one another... Maybe we can bring in other homeless heroes and help those who found themselves in Paragon City, but had nothing to their names! Money is weird in Paragon and Earth, so it's best to just band together, make the money we can, and share a place to stay! Unfortunately, they were not immediately down for it, so I am back to square one... But the idea isn't gone... Perhaps with time, I will be able to find others who can join my cause, and we can form a supergroup that takes in the homeless and provide for them and ourselves! It will be good.
