General Damarion Sonte

General Damarion Lidros Sonte

Damarion Sonte was a Felinoid Meridian general during the Fall of Meridia, having been recently promoted to Commander of the Air Corps at the start of the war. Little is known about his past, as most documentation was lost, but it is known that he was born to a prestigious noble house of Meridia, and had a commission purchased as a commander in the Meridian Air Corps not long after becoming an adult.   Most historians remember Damarion as a competent, unexceptional strategic leader, but a highly capable administrator who was responsible for significant modernization in the Meridian Air Corps during the Fall of Meridia. While unpopular, his emphasis on using skyships as strategic supply trains during the Fall of Meridia proved highly effective, and allowed many cities within Central Meridia to be supplied and evacuated even when encircled.   He has been heavily criticized for his slow mobilization of the Meridia Air Corps in the early stages of the war, and the loss of most airship docks in Eastern Meridia. However, his legacy remains in the fifteen skyships that survived the Fall of Meridia, as despite their near-total defeat, only two Meridian skyships were lost; one from catastrophic malfunction, one from undead forces. He is also remembered for his complete disdain for supporting Union forces and the not wholly unfounded view that Union help would lead to the complete loss of Meridian independence.   Accounts from other notable leaders of the time after Damarion's death remember him as a rather brusque man who was hard to please and often found flaws in other, but not unreasonable. His death during the overrun of the skyship Solis was remembered even by his most staunch opponent, Vitilianus Atilliades, as a day of despair and mourning.
