The Flood of Al-Rem

Legend states that the massive pocket of dark fluidic space commonly called 'The Deep' is a more recent galactic feature, originating during the Precursor civilization. There is no explanation of how this is possible, but the "why" of the myth suggests that, under threat of destruction by an outside force, the Precursors unleashed a deluge of dark matter and energy, giving rise to the vast fluidic sea called 'Al-Rem.'

The truth of the matter is, of course, lost to history.
