Shadowfell

The shadowfell is one of two parallel planes to the material plane, with the other being its inverse, the feywild. The shadowfell is dark, gloomy, and bleak, and it is filled with undead who want nothing more than to leave to the material plane, which most often happens through being summoned. The inhabitants of the shadowfell include undead, as well as dead spirits who have become lost or trapped. Some demons that have escaped the abyss also reside in the shadowfell. There are also a range of other creatures native to the shadowfell whose nature is difficult to categorise. As a whole, the shadowfell is the domain of Morta. On top of all of this, the shadowfell is poorly mapped onto the material plane - the plane's connection to the temporal plane causes some hiccups. As such, time progresses strangely in the shadowfell. You can be in the shadowfell for centuries and emerge to find that it's only been a day since you left the material plane, or you can spend an hour in the shadowfell and decades may pass back home. Creatures of the feywild are diametrically opposed to the nature of the shadowfell. It may at best be physically uncomfortable for them to be in the shadowfell, or at worst, mentally fracturing. Even if a fey creature were to remain sane in the shadowfell, the creatures of the shadowfell are less than welcoming to any outsider, and fey are not only not an exception, but in fact exemplary of this rule. Often, fey creatures are attacked on sight in the shadowfell.
