Harnukka
Monarch of the kingdom of Relmunti. He presides in the Tin Palace, his seat in the ancient and glorious city of Pelikur. While other rulers arrive their positions because they were lucky to enough to be born to the previous one, the Relmuna are unique in the sense their king is elected on a rotating basis from a series of noble families.
Qualifications
Possessing skill in battle is seen as a positive. The ability to father sons is not regarded as important as in other lands, because of the rotating nature of the monarchy. Those seen as weak or cowardly will have a lesser chance of being elected. Being directly descended from previous kings also boosts one's chances.
Requirements
A prospective king must be of majority, which is fifteen. He must also be physically fit and mentally competent. The most important requirement is he must be a son of one of the thirty families that rule Relmunti.
Appointment
Once the old king dies and is laid to rest in their family's tomb, the powerful families convene in the Tin Palace's reception room. The family whose turn it is to succeed announces all eligible candidates and each is given a short time span to promote themselves to the audience. After all of the men are presented, each man casts their vote for their favorite candidate. The one with the most votes is declared the winner and soon after prepared for his coronation.
Duties
The King of Relmunti is charged with leading the direct of defense of Pelikur should it ever come under siege. He is also responsible with the leading the Relmuna armies in battle. While not fighting, he holds court and hears the grievances of the noble families. When a crime has been committed in the capital, either the king or one of his judges presides over the cases and decides on the criminal's punishment.
