Demographics
The Sarisi lives in his palace with his extended family, concubines, confidants, scribes, and artists. A relatively large gathering of nobles lives in the large houses within the vicinity of the houses. Women who were blessed with the magical prerequisite for join Nugala's cult took up residence in her temple. Such people, however, consisted of a relatively small minority of Kalasu's population.
The rest, farmers, craftsmen, merchants, fishermen, prostitutes, and others, lived in a sprawling maze of houses and shops that made up the rest of the city.
A notable smattering of foreigners, most Med-sitimi and Nupari, were relegated to the quarter closest to the river.
Government
Governance takes place entirely from the Sarisi's palace.
Defences
An impressive set of walls protected the city, twenty-seven cubits tall and wide enough on top for ten men to stand abreast. The gates are made of precious wood and hinged with bronze.
Industry & Trade
Most of Kalasu's inhabitants are farmers that work in the fields surrounding the city, planting, growing, and harvesting crops. More skilled and fewer in number are the skilled laborers who work metal, build houses, among other things. Fewer still are the merchants ply their trade in the city's markets, selling everything from Nupari beer to Natiawan perfume and everything in between.
Assets
As the seat of the rulers of Kalumak, all of his personal assets are kept within Kalasu's walls. Gold, silver, jewels, stone, ivory, wood, grain, oil, beer, wine, produce, copper, tin, and bronze are kept in great storehouses under the watchful eyes of the Sarisi's men. He owns numerous horses and chariots for war.
History
Originally known as Dabamilu, Nimgaligigi renamed the city after the goddess that granted him victory over the Hatasuli.
Architecture
Mud bricks are used in the construction of many buildings, from the Sarisi's palace to the humblest hovel. The poorest make do with reeds picked from the river bank. Stone and wood is used sparingly, mostly in the dwelling of those who can afford the exorbitant price of importing it.
Geography
The Azimon River flows to the right of the city. Around Kalasu, floodplains stretch as far as the eye can see. The river supplies most of the city's water, used for agriculture and bathing. Wells provide drinking water.
Natural Resources
Kalasu's natural resources derives from what can be grown in the surrounding fields and fished from the river. Grain is grown to turn into bread or beer. Large fields of flax are grown to produce vast quantities of linen. Date palm groves nearby are known to produce a large and sweet variety popular at the feasts and festivals that commonly take place. The Azimon is home to many species of fish eaten by people of all social classes.
