Universidad Ingenii
The Universidad Ingenii is one of the more prestigious colleges in the material plane. It is also the largest center of knowledge in Industria. Located between the Merchant's Slice and Noble's Slice, the university is most widely sought after by mages and scholars who wish to know secrets about the multiverse that is unknown to all other material planers.
Purpose / Function
The Universidad Ingenii, which in the common tongue is the University of Ingenuity, is one of the largest colleges in the Prime Material Plane. It also has the largest library in the Material Plane, and is one of the places many scholars and mages go to study the magic and natural arts. Many who seek knowledge or prestige come to this place to find it.
Architecture
The university's walls are lined with collumns of imported black stone, with a tall blue marbel dome capping the northern side, where the library is located. Twin bricked spires rise from the southern side casting shadows over the entrance, where a large oaken door stands. Arches rise over the doorways, each one lined with runes of magic. The inner court surrounds a pedestal where a statue of the founder, Bulion Ponabarte (a Centaur dressed in fine clothing), stands tall and proud surrounded by water imported from the ground below. Cobblestone pathways lead around to many floored rooms lining the inside, the west half being for dorms and the east half being for classrooms. The Northern half used to be full of classrooms as well, however an attack from the Machine Muerte destroyed these, and now a vast library takes up the space instead. The library itself has a large door just across from the main Southern entrance, and some smaller ones on each of the three floors that lead to balconies within. The library itself is constructed of brownstone bricks and well lit with high chandeliers forged of steel holding many oil lantens. A maze of shelves are lined with books and scrolls containing what is possibly all the knowledge of the universe (DM decides what knowledge can be found). These shelves are made of oaken wood, like the doors are, and are kept neat and clean. At the library's center is a round spruce desk that lies in the light filtering through a stained glass window depicting an elven boy read a book. (A DC 12 history check will reveal this is Istyar, a student at the university who famously sacrificed his life to save his friends' when the Northern half was shattered.) The library also has many stairs, all of which are covered with a long purple carpet.
Defenses
The university has a security guard of Wheelers borrowed from the Commerce Guild. They are specially marked with the university's initials on their wheel axels.
History
The University of Ingenuity was built in South Industria two years after the city's founding and shortly after the city's growing popularity with the nobility of the ground level. It was intentionally built with a combination of stone and metal as a way to display itself as a neutral party in the growing rivalry between machine folk and organic folk. The university itself has been the place of learning for quite a few well known scholars, and has developed a reputation of prestige among scholars. However, this also gathered some unwanted attention from the Machina Muerte, who notably planted a stasis shatter spell on the campus, bringing down the university's northern half and destroying several classrooms. Quite a few lives of students were lost in that tragedy, and the library that since replaced that section is in fact dedicated to those who perished.
Tourism
The university doesn't usually welcome tourists, however there is one time of the year when the University of Ingenuity opens its doors to the public to attract potential students. There is a tour of the campus that shows some classrooms, dorm rooms, and a notable walk through the library. In the library are displayed several historical artifacts from the prime material, (DM's choice what these are) donated from across the plane. The tour then ends at the entrance where visitors are asked to consider enrolling at the university, and told to send a letter to the school if they wish for enrollment.
