Centaur

The centaur was a large creature that lived in temperate plains, found natively in The Still. They could live solitary lives or live in small tribes.

Description

A centaur had the upper body of a humanoid, and the lower body of a large horse. They stood around 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and weighed approximately 2,100 pounds (950 kilograms).

Society

Centaurs were a strong and proud race. Although they typically strove to find peace and balance with nature, they could act with violence when the need arose. Despite this desire for balance, centaurs had to eat a lot to fuel their large bodies and were known to overindulge, especially with wine and ale. A drunken centaur was much more prone to aggressive and violent behavior.   Although some were solitary, centaurs generally lived in tribal hunter-gatherer societies. Those that felt a sense of wanderlust to explore the world made excellent companions, and occasionally would offer a ride to allies. The suggestion that they be used as a pack animal however was met with derision.

Religions

Most centaurs were not too concerned with religion, and tended instead to revere their ancestors. The most notably revered ancestor was Mori, considered the pinacle of what it was to be a free centaur living off the land. Centaur who did worship gods tended to worship nature gods from another pantheon, such as Fiadhúl, Tammi, or more rarely Ndlovu.

Relations

They had largely good relations with elves, as they were both creatures very intune with nature. They tolerated gnomes and halflings for somewhat similar reasons. It was said that centaurs had a superstitious fear of dragons and giants, in large part due to the historical wars the two engaged in which ravaged the entire world   Centaurs had a mixed relationship with the clans of Minotaur and Leonin. The three groups have historically fought over land and resources in The Still and sometimes continue to do so. However, individual clans were just as likely to war with each other as they were to ally themselves against another.   Centaurs from The Still had a general distrust for all humans, due to the colonisation from the Nanpō Empire. Centaurs from other parts of Dünya did not tend to have as adverse feelings towards humans, although they were still generally distrustful of humans.

Player Race Features

  • Ability Scores. Choose any +2; choose any other +1.
  • Size. Medium.
  • Speed. 40 feet.
  • Charge. If you move at least 30 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee weapon attack on the same turn, you can immediately follow that attack with a bonus action, making one attack against the target with your hooves.
  • Equine Build. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag. In addition, any climb that requires hands and feet is especially difficult for you because of your equine legs. When you make such a climb, each foot of movement costs you 4 extra feet instead of the normal 1 extra foot. Finally, a Medium or smaller creature can ride on your equine back if you allow it. In such a situation, you continue to act independently, not as a controlled mount.
  • Hooves. You have hooves that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
  • Survivor. You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, Nature, or Survival.
  • Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Khel.
