Kar (Car)

Kar is the goddess of winter, preservation, and cold. She was a harsh and bitter goddess who was feared just as much as she was revered, particularly in the far south and far north of Dünya.

Description

Kar was frequently depicted as a very slim woman in her early 40s (human age) with icy coloured, close fitting, robes. She is shown holding a snowflake in her long fingered hand. Her face is shown as somewhat gaunt with prominent cheekbones and jaw. Even amongst none-humans, she was shown as gaunt, stoic, and hard-faced.

Religion

There were few dedicated worshippers of Kar, especially good-aligned ones. Despite this, she was frequently prayed to by laypeople, particularly after the first frost, to prevent her wrath of blizzards from taking place.   She was a part of the Tempest Circle pantheon, where she symbolized the wrath of snow, ice and blizzards. Those who worshipped her within the pantheon were known for their desire to preserve what they viewed as beautiful, going so far as to murder attractive people or steal artwork as a form of devotion to their wicked goddess.   Her holy day was celebrated on the 1st of Frosting, and was known as Rimeen (pronounced rime-een). The day symbolised the first frost and so followers of Kar would also rejoice if/when the first frost would actually arrive if it was different. None worshippers used this day to petition the goddess to not send snow and blizzards down on them.   The leap day of The Chill was also considered a holy day for Kar, but only amongst her followers. They would hold all-night vigils and, in areas controlled by her followers, a sacrifice would be presented to the goddess such as a person stripped of their clothes and sent to die in the cold or a city-wide ban of fires for the duration of the day.
