Sophia Skyspear was born to the Barthyr mining clan, and she moved to Waterdeep at the tender age of 43 to flee an arranged marriage to Gilgol Gulgin Splogmordal (a wealthy enough merchant but a complete dunce). She married Salamander "Sal" Skyspear and together they have three children: Dorothy, Grunila and Plorp. Sophia lived alone for nearly a century after Sal's death, but over time she began to lose her eyesight. At the insistence of her daughter, she begrudgingly allowed Dorothy, Rose Morningbend and Blanche Grassorb to move in and help take care of her.
